Cannabigerol - Cannabinoid series // Canabigerol - Série Canabinoides

We are taking a tortuous path on the cannabinoid map to understand them. I as a good layman am studying the compounds in the random order that came to mind, but little did I know I was going to be running over some basic logic. The forerunners!

In past post I talked about THCA which is the precursor to THC. And by chance, today I will be talking about the precursor of THCA (and also of CBDA) which is Canabigerol, or CBG. Or rather, from CBGA (cannabigerolic acid) which converts during maturation of the plant into CBG.

When the plant is still developing in the flowering cycle, the plant starts producing CBGA, and this will follow its course, depending on the genetics of the plant and the process carried out there. The vast majority of cannabis plants have a much higher amount of THC than CBD, which means that a good part of CBGA converts to THCA.

Now let's talk about the effects of CBG on humans. Unlike CBD, which acts mainly on CB2 receptors, Cannabigerol acts on both CB1 and CB2 receptors. And because he works in CB1 does that mean he has psychoactive potential? Yes and no. The fact is that it even helps to inhibit the intoxicating effects of THC on the CB1 receptor. So for those who feel too lost and too intoxicated when using cannabis, CBG would have an interesting role to balance that experience. CBG also seems to have an influence on the increased activation of "anandamide", an endogenous cannabinoid that we have and is related to good mood, stress, sleep, hunger, etc. There is still some evidence that CBG has action on serotonin, but this is still very little evidenced and further tests will be needed to prove it.

But what about beyond the mental part? Well, Cannabigerol has anti-fungal, insect repellent, neuroprotective, anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties. Some initial studies point to CBG as a potential aid to the body in fighting cancer.

The best way to use CBG is in oil, as its proportion of dried herbs for smoked or edible consumption is usually very low (but not always nil). Some plants are being crossed to improve their CBG rate, and even the plants are harvested before flowering to extract CBGA in greater proportion.
