Welcome back!

Your friendly neighborhood curator is back for another Hive community to explore and write an unofficial curation post about some of the great content I find, and sharing the rewards with the authors who're chosen!

This round, my wheel has selected the StemSocial Community. This is a group I've contributed to many times over the years via my 'Super Cool Science S#!t' series, and I'm excited to delve in and see what sort of interesting and nerdy things people are writing about this week!

StemSocial is a community for all things "nerdy".

Science, Technology, Engineering & Math, as well as other related topics like Architecture, History, Science-Fiction and more. The group has been around for around 4 years, well before the time of formal communities like we see today. The main, and really only, requirement for content published to this community is that pseudoscience and conspiracies are not allowed. You need to be able to back up claims with solid evidence.

If you're someone who writes or enjoys reading "intellectual" content and learning new things about the world and universe surrounding you like I do, StemSocial is definitely the place for you on Hive!

If you're not sure where to start, here are five of my favorite posts this week from the StemSocial Community!

Pretty much everyone has heard of black holes,

but how much do you really know about these cosmic monstrosities?

@muratkbesiroglu wrote about his life-long fascination with black holes, and does a very good job of providing concise answers to many of the most common questions about them, explaining many of the phenomenon associated with these most dense of celestial bodies.

Let's head back down to Earth...

Artificial Intelligence will continue to revolutionize the daily lives of humans, but what makes it "artificial"?

@aamin followed up a previous post about AI by looking at how it compares to natural, or "human", intelligence, and how the future could see radical changes to nearly every imaginable industry thanks to advances in artificial intelligence.

All that AI is going to require a serious power source...

How are we going to power all those computers and robots, not to mention provide sustainable and uninterrupted power to developing and underdeveloped countries?

@hadji wrote about exactly that... Electricity has become essential for modern life, but generating to power people need isn't always the easiest thing to do.

Looking at the history and advantages of lithium-ion battery technology, @hadji explains that batteries could be a more and more viable solution to many of the world's energy problems over time.

Traditional power can be incredibly harmful to the environment.

which is all the more reason for us to do our best to preserve the systems our planet uses to mitigate some of that pollution like trees' ability to absorb and trap carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

@azissuloh writes about how coastal ecosystems like mangrove forests can absorb and trap upwards of 100x the amount of carbon from the atmosphere as their land based counterparts.

Preserving ecosystems also helps protect their inhabitants.

One of the many creatures being displaced by human expansion and disregard for the surrounding environment are raptors, top-tier predators that rule the skies.

@agmoore wrote an incredibly extensive post about these majestic birds, their various types, and the major threats to their populations.

With 35 listed references, you can tell just how much work went into this post, and how interested @agmoore is in the topic. If you want to see a prime example of the type of content being published to the StemSocial Community, this is it!

I try and make it a point to learn something new every day.

The StemSocial Community makes it incredibly easy and rewarding to do exactly that! If you're half as interested in the STEM fields and general knowledge as I am, StemSocial should definitely be on your list of favorite Hive communities.

As usual, the authors showcased in this article will each receive 10% of the rewards for this post, so if you enjoyed this curation article, consider upvoting and sharing it to help support not just me, but the authors creating great content within the communities I curate!

Thanks so much for reading. Now go learn about something awesome!
