My Experience with Motion Sickness.

I have never been a fan of traveling and that is because I have been very scared of the road since I was little, it was worse while growing up, because I would literally close my eyes all through the journey and force myself to sleep from time to time, I cannot remember what exactly gave me that trauma, but I would blame it on the accident my Mum had when I was a little girl. I limited my traveling as much as I could when I started to take control of my own decisions, I only traveled when it was necessary and all through the journey I wouldn't eat anything regardless of how long it was, because if I eat there is a strong possibility that I would begin to feel nauseous, have stomach upset or even begin to vomit, to prevent all those embarrassment, I fast all through the journey until I get to my destination.

This was my reality until I was able to afford to travel by air for the first time in my life, and I realized what I experienced was just a road sickness, I had a great time flying by air asides from the fact that I had the first time fear, I was able to look out of the window without being afraid, I didn't feel nauseous also all through the trip.
A few weeks ago, I needed to make an urgent journey, I am not financially stable enough to travel by air, so I had no option but to go by road on a long ten hours journey, I couldn't eat all through and I feel sick after the trip, this is what is making me write about Motion Sickness today because just like me, there may be someone who always has strange symptoms and body changes whenever they travel by road , you are experiencing motion sickness and I am here to tell you more about it, so come along friends, as we unveil this topic together.

Motion sickness happens when you get sick whenever you travel by road, creating conditions like cold sweats, vomiting, and nausea. Motion sickness can affect any gender, but children and women are more prone to experience motion sickness, steps can be taken to reduce your chances of getting motions sickness. We begin to feel motion sickness when the brain finds it difficult to make any sense of the information sent from the ears, the eyes and the body. Either yours is being carsick, seasick or airsick, they are all classified under motion sickness.

What exactly causes motion sickness is that, the brain recieves signals from motion-sensing parts of the body, we have the eyes, the inner ears, the joints as well as the muscles, when this body part sends informations that are conflicting, the brain fails to understand if you are at a stationary point or if there is movement, the confused reaction of the brain would make you feel sick. Let's take our example from the car scenerio, at that point; the eyes experiences that trees are passing by and registers the movement, that the inner ears sense movement, the joints and muscles of the bosy senses that you are sitting still at a point and the brain senses that there is a disconnect among the messages. Motion sickness also happens while having fun with the rides at amusement parks and game center, some virtual reality experiences also trigger muscle treatment, the motion sickness can be triggered while you are in motion, playing video games can trigger the experience, and even reading while on the road could trigger the experience.

The Associated Symptoms of Motion Sickness.

Motion sickness could come up surprisingly, you could be feeling alright now and the following minute, you begin to experience changes in symptoms, like; sudden headache, dizziness, fatigue, inability to focus, pale skin, difficulty concentrating, cold sweats, rapid breathing and irritability.

The best possible way to avoid motion sickness is to prevent it, but it is not possible to prevent motion sickness as long as you are traveling, these strategies can however, help you lessen motion sickness;

  • Try to sit at the front of the car.
  • Try not to eat excessively all through the journey.
  • Avoid smocking.
  • If space warrants, try to lie down, shut your eyes to sleep or look at the horizon.
  • Do not smock even while traveling.
  • Distract yourself with activities like listening with music.
  • Natural remedies like ginger and chamomile has also been confirmed in some cases to help relieve motion sickness.
    Some people take medications to help relieve motion sickness, although so many of the sickness will cause drowsiness, so you need to speak with your health care professional to help provide the right medication for the treatment.

Conclusion.

Motion sickness is not a terminal sickness but it can be very embarrassing, imagine you have to throw-up at every junction, trust Nigeria drivers to either frustrate you all through the journey or simply drop you down. I just do not eat at all through the journey to avoid drama, I am sure that soon, I will be able to afford flight tickets so I wont need to travel long distance by road anymore.
