Happy Sunday guys, hope the weekend has been going well for all of us. Did you notice ?

That today marks the end of April and this post happens to be the last for this month. 😁
Happy new month in advance guys, I hope the new month turns out great for everyone of us.
Oook, let's proceed with our weekly reports from the science and technology space.

Fat Quantum Cats: Physicists’ Record-Breaking Schrödinger Cat Experiment

Ever heard of the Schrödinger Cat Experiment before ?

If you haven't, then wait for another upcoming article of mine. Generally speaking, the experiment (a thought experiment) seems to be talking about the possibility of a cat being dead and alive at the same time. 😳

Yes, you heard me right. It was intended to highlight one of the several issues of quantum mechanics (superposition of states) when it was first developed, it's actually an interesting thought experiment. Though such kind of phenomenon (being dead and alive at the same time) can't be observed with real cats because real cats are classical objects not quantum objects, this report presents us with a real life experiment that mimics that of such cat. For the first time, the phenomenon of superposition has been demonstrated for a classical object. If you're curious about such tantalising research, then keep reading here.

Building a transistor out of treated wood

Our modern electronics, especially mobile phones and computers wouldn't have been possible if not for the invention of transistors. Modern transistors are made from semiconductors, like silicon. In this report, researchers have done something groundbreaking, they have been able to successfully create a transistor using wood, thus creating an organic transistor.
Emmmm.... Wait a minute, i thought wood is an insulator ?

If such question is lurking on your mind, then continue reading to know how it was possible and more. Welcome to the green future amigos.

Can machines be self-aware? New research explains how this could happen

This is an interesting question but what really is being self-aware ?

Well, personally i don't exactly know, there seem to be different definitions. Questions like these fall under a broader question of what consciousness actually is and nature of the mind, in philosophy they fall under "the philosophy of mind". Probably the reason why we are finding it hard to understand core aspects of what makes us "us" and how it arises from our physical/biological processes could also stem from semantics. Away from that, someone seems to be proposing a mechanistic approach of understanding self-awareness and also how to engineer it in machines. If you're the kind that gets turned on with these kinds of elusive phenomena, then keep reading here. Who knows, he may be right or wrong but time would eventually tell. 😉

The Unexpected Evolutionary Key of Blinking

It's believed that the first form(s) of life arose in water, like the ocean/sea and after series of evolutionary changes Earth became filled with different living creatures. One distinctive feature between land animals and those in the water is the blinking of the eyes, we land animals do it everytime, almost involuntarily and for safe reasons too but how we evolved to blink or even how animals evolved from water dwelling to land dwelling isn't well understood. In this report, it appears that a certain kind fish may hold the clue. As a matter of fact, the fish can also walk on land. 👀

If you wish to know more, then keep reading.

It is here we conclude today's report, have a thoughtful day and till i come your way again next week.
