Hello community:

I'm counting down the days and almost the hours to go back to work after a long period of maternity. Oh, I have to buy a pair of shoes (at least to start with...), then I'll have to buy others, of course. I started a search adventure that took me on a walk without intending to.

Rancho Boyeros Fairgrounds, Havana.

In this place there is a shop where they sell handicrafts and they recommended me the shoes. This is where my search for the much needed shoes led me.

To my surprise it was the week of an international trade fair. This is a business opportunity for the participants, as well as for the expansion of exports of agri-food products from our country.

Fifty pesos per person and my husband accompanied me.... So it was one hundred Cuban pesos for the entrance to this centre alone.

Pavilions full of people and everything readjusted to the exhibitions. None of my dreamed-of shoes were to be seen there.

There was a festive atmosphere, with lots of music and since we had paid the entrance fee, we decided to take a tour and see what the place had to offer.

In a large area there is a display of tools and spare parts for construction and agriculture related equipment, all built by Cuban entities.

A central street divides the blocks of pavilions where conferences and negotiations between exhibitors take place. On the pavements of the pavilions there was a large representation of authorised private sellers where you can find everything from lace, children's toys, clothing accessories and even household items.

Other points of sale had products that were very allegorical to the place and to the exhibition theme, as they sold articles and accessories for the care of the animals, as well as for the use of their owners.

A rodeo area is surrounded by bleachers for the appreciation of the shows. It is nice to see the parade of horses, they are really very majestic and elegant animals, but unfortunately we could not stay for lack of time.

We were very close to the José Martí airport, so I was able to catch a plane flying over the stands (although it looks a bit far away in the photo).

In separate cubicles, beautiful equine specimens rest under these roofed halls, which are on display for visitors to see.

A group of small horses (ponies) bring joy to the little ones who come here with their families and ride on them for a few minutes.

On the tour (still looking for my shoes) we found more display halls with different animals: pigs, rams, goats and cattle. Beautiful species with their young were displayed before everyone there. 😍

Almost at the end of the facility was a whole logistical infrastructure and here we saw trucks with their latticed beds transporting cattle.

A stand laden with potted plants diverted my attention and I stood for a long time admiring these amazing lives from which we people should learn so much because of the level of adaptation and survival they have.

I left there almost dragged by my husband, as we had little time to finish the tour and return home and I was like a fool in love with these plants....

We had already walked all over the place; I was happy for what my eyes had perceived and the positive reaction it had on my emotional state, but still without my shoes.

It was then that we decided to leave and almost at the exit, in a small stall I found the shoes with the model and colour I wanted... not too high, not too low, blue to match my uniform and for the modest sum of 2000 Cuban pesos. 😬

There they were waiting for me, but I think the universe wanted to show me beautiful things that would nourish my soul first, and well it did, because I returned home with my shoes and with a totally unexpected and comforting walk.

Descuento los días y ya casi las horas para reincorporarme a mi centro laboral luego de un largo tiempo de mi maternidad. ¡Oh, tengo que comprarme un par de zapatos! (como mínimo y para empezar...), después tendré que comprarme otros lógicamente. Comencé una aventura de búsqueda que me llevó a un paseo sin proponérmelo.

Recinto Ferial de Rancho Boyeros, La Habana.

En este lugar hay una tienda donde venden artesanías y me recomendaron los zapatos. A este destino me condujo la búsqueda del necesitado calzado.

Para mi sorpresa estaba en semana de feria internacional. Esta es una oportunidad de negocio para los participantes, así como para la ampliación de exportaciones de productos agroalimentarios de nuestro país.

Cincuenta pesos por persona y mi esposo me acompañaba... Así que fueron cien pesos cubanos solamente la entrada a este centro.

Pabellones repletos de personas y todo reajustado a las exposiciones. Nada de mis soñados zapatos se avisoraba por aquellos lares.

Había un ambiente festivo, con mucha música y ya que habíamos pagado por la entrada, decidimos hacer un recorrido y ver lo que mostraba aquel sitio.

En un área extensa se expone una muestra de herramientas y piezas de repuesto para equipos relacionados con la construcción y la agricultura, todos construidos por entidades cubanas.

Un calle central divide los bloques de pabellones donde se llevan a cabo conferencias y negociaciones entre los exponentes. En las aceras de ellos se desplegaba toda una gran representación de lo que son los vendedores particulares autorizados y donde puedes encontrar desde una puntilla; juguetes para niños; accesorios de prendas de vestir y hasta útiles del hogar.

Otros puntos de venta tenían productos bien alegóricos al lugar y a la temática expositiva, pues vendían artículos y accesorios para el cuidado de los animales, así como para el uso de sus dueños.

Un espacio para rodeo lo circunvala unas gradas para la apreciación de los espectáculos. Me resulta agradable ver el desfile de los caballos, son realmente animales muy magestuosos y elegantes, pero desafortunadamente no pudimos quedarnos por falta de tiempo.

Estábamos muy cerca del aeropuerto José Martí, por lo que pude captar un avión que sobrevolaba por encima de las gradas (aunque se ve un poco lejos en la foto).

En cubículos por separados, descansan lindos ejemplares equinos bajo estas naves techadas que exponen a la vista de los visitantes.

Un grupo de pequeños caballos (pony) brindan alegría a los más pequeños que hasta acá se llegan con sus familias y sobre ellos pasean durante unos pocos minutos.

En el recorrido (aún buscando mis zapatos) encontramos más naves expositoras con diferentes animales: cerdos, carneros, chivos y reses. Hermosas especies con sus crías se mostraban ante todos allí. 😍

Casi al final de la instalación se encontraba toda una infraestructura de logística y aquí vimos camiones con sus camas enrejadas que transportaban reses.

Un stand cargado de plantas sembradas en macetas desvió mi atención y me quedé largo tiempo admirando estas vidas sorprendentes de las que tanto debemos aprender las personas por todo el nivel de adaptación y supervivencia que tienen.

Salí de allí casi arrastrada por mi esposo, pues teníamos poco tiempo para terminar el recorrido y volver a casa y yo estaba como boba enamorada de estas plantas...

Ya habíamos recorrido todo el lugar; yo feliz por lo que mi vista había percibido y la reacción tan positiva que tuvo en mi estado emocional, pero aún sin mis zapatos.

Fue entonces que decidimos marcharnos y casi en la salida, en un pequeño puestecito encontré los zapatos con el modelo y el color que deseaba... ni muy altos, ni muy bajos, azul para combinar con mi uniforme y por la módica suma de 2000 pesos cubanos. 😬

Allí estaban esperando por mí, pero creo que el universo quiso mostrarme primero cosas bellas que me nutrieran el alma y bien que lo logró, pues regresé a mi casa con mis zapatos y con un paseo totalmente inesperado y reconfortante.
