In the evening, I decided to look at the photos from that day and only then did I understand what was wrong with my shopping that day. The thing is, I had a specific goal in mind: I was going to go to a shop that had been open for the last few days and had a huge sale for the occasion. The sale started on Monday, but I went on Wednesday, because Wednesday was my free day.
My route on that day didn't look like I was speeding from home to the shop. Quite the opposite! I walked around, choosing the most attractive streets, going to interesting places... I eventually made it to the shop. But it turned out that I arrived too late: I should have gone shopping on the first day of the sale, then I would have had a chance to buy something from my list. So I left the shop quickly, and I didn't even take a single picture inside... But I took lots of pictures on the way.
The shop I was going to visit is on the outskirts of the city, and the most convenient way to get there is by metro. So my shopping trip this day looks like this: walk to the metro, take a few stops, walk from the metro to the shop. There is one of the charity shops of the "Thank You" chain near the underground, and I did not deny myself the pleasure of stopping in this shop for a while.
"Thank You" is a shop for conscious consumption. You can bring here nice clothes that you no longer need, and you can also buy nice clothes that other people have turned out not to need. As well as clothes, this shop also sells and buys books and gramophone records. A small department with brand new products related to the general concept is also there, they sell eco-bags, handmade soaps and the like.
I walked the halls of the shop, trying not to buy anything by accident. I discovered a small retro anteroom in the far hall. Furniture from the 60s or 70s, an old typewriter, skates on a nail on the wall... I don't think a hallway is the right place for a typewriter - but perhaps it's just been bought?
A slate board with a drawing of a cat is set next to a souvenir shelf. "It's the world's longest baby cat," claims the text underneath the drawing.
I ended with a picture of some eco-bags. These kinds of bags with different funny inscriptions have become very popular in our city. I left the shop and continued my way towards the underground. I was still in no hurry, so I decided to go into a few courtyards on the way, looking for some nice flowerbeds or interesting graffiti.
In one of the arches I suddenly came across an advertisement for eco-bags. It was an amazing coincidence! I don't know why the ad ended up here: the door next to it is the door of an art studio, not a shop. On the other side of the door are the usual drawings.
Near the window of a small bakery two two-wheeled vehicles were resting. I noticed that it was quite lively inside, but I didn't go in, I still had quite a long way to go.
No walk lasts indefinitely; finally I reached the metro station and went downstairs. The first item on my shopping list was fulfilled: I bought a metro ticket.
I needed to get to the Leninsky Prospekt station. The station was built in the 1970s, and its architectural design is fully consistent with the concepts of the time: simple and spacious.
I got off the metro in an area that was also built in the 1970s. There's a commuter train station nearby and there's often a spontaneous market next to the metro station. Flowers were sold today, while at other times one might catch a trade in cucumbers, strawberries or apples.
Several stalls are located nearby. The nearest stall offers to buy cherries from Azerbaijan for 220 roubles (about $4) per kilo, a little cheaper than the department stores.
The shop is quite far away from the metro, in the area of new buildings, so I got over by trolleybus a few more stops. You already know what happened next: I went inside, admired the empty shelves and came back out. To make up for this disappointment, I decided to go up to the top floor of a nearby building to take a picture of the view towards the Gulf of Finland. The buildings in this photo are all newly built. The flats in these buildings are not yet completely sold out - so it's a great place for flat shopping. And that concludes my shopping trip:)
