After a long time, I am back on Market Friday again with a market of my city which is the most popular for daily office commuters. This market is settled in the subway that connects from different roads going to the local railway station in Mumbai city. All throughout the day this place is busy, buzzing with people. It is said that approximately 3.5 million people travel daily by this particular local train network. Even if half of these would use the subway, then there is a big business scope here. With the way it has spread out, I am sure there is a very good market here.
Right from the entrance of the subway the market starts. Mostly what is sold here is Apparels, Footwear, Bags, Toys and Mobile accessories, other than that you will also find some eatery joints. The products available here are not any brands they are all local brands and very reasonably priced. Good on the pocket of lower middle class income people. A lot of bargaining happens here. Quality-wise it is not great but for a short time use they are good.
Most of the items are displayed on the floor, space is not much and I could see that every shop is trying to maximize so they have spread out their items on the floor for a better display to the people passing by.
I was looking out for a mobile pouch, if I could find something sleek, but there was nothing that I had in mind. Sometimes you get some really useful handy stuff here so it's good to take a look. One has to be careful in selection because there is a lot of damage stuff also mixed up in this.
In college days I used to do lot of this type of shopping. In those times there was limited pocket money and I wanted to have more styles and options so I would go ahead and buy things from these places. And I remember the footwear bought from these places would hurt like hell, but it was all good in the name of fashion and show off at that time...hahaha. But, now I do not prefer.
There are sunglasses, bags, bangles, whatever in the name of accessories you want you will find it here.
Casual, formals, all sorts of clothes are available here. There are no trial rooms, one has to simply buy on judgement and if the fitting does not feel good after going home then it can be exchanged, there is no refund.
This is how the subway market looks like.
These type of markets are common in many parts of the world. Almost every main station has it. The good thing about these markets are that they offer some real reasonable options to the buyers which are light on the pocket.
