During my first week living in Dumaguete City, I discovered that there is a popular Valencia Sunday Market held at Valencia Plaza every Sunday. By the way, Valencia is a 20-minute ride from Dumaguete City. This program was initiated by the Department of Tourism to attract tourists. They have invited local farmers, restaurant and coffee shop owners, crafts makers, and other entrepreneurs to display their products at Valencia Plaza.
It's been a few months since I planned to visit the place; however, I always end up feeling lazy because I know the place is too crowded.
But a few weeks ago, I finally experienced the Valencia Sunday Market. I went there early to escape the crowds, but when I arrived, there were already many customers strolling around the market, though it was not too crowded yet.
As I entered, the strong aroma of coffee welcomed me. Since I wasn't starving yet because it was still too early, I went to different food stalls to check out their products.
This food stall is selling milk tea, fruit tea, burgers, and pasta. The price of each product ranges from $2 and above.
As I looked to the other side, handmade crafts were displayed. They were colorful, with nice earrings, bracelets, and necklaces laid out on the table.
I noticed that foreigners usually make purchases of these items, maybe because they find them unique. I asked the attendant about the price, it usually ranges from $1 to $4. Since I'm not a fan of jewelry, I left the store empty-handed.
I went to the next store which displayed cakes, pastries, cookies and bread. Since I planned to purchase a slice of bread, I bought one pack, but I regretted after I bought it since the price was much higher than the bakery where I usually make my purchases. I realized this too late.
However, I thought to myself that it was okay since I could try their product.
If you feel like eating grilled foods, you can also find them there. Barbecue is one of the most popular Filipino foods.
If you visit the Philippines and find that barbecue places are too crowded, don't be surprised.
After almost 2 hours of strolling around, the place had become very crowded. Many families and groups of friends were having picnics.
I felt tired and hungry after strolling around, so I looked for a food stall that had ready-to-eat foods. That's how I discovered Lads Cuisine.
The food stall had many customers when I went there. There were many different foods available, but I chose to purchase one small container of baked macaroni. It cost around $3, which I paid through G-cash, a popular e-wallet in the Philippines.
After paying, I immediately looked for a place where I would be comfortable to eat. There were many available seats around, so I had no difficulty finding a nice spot. I enjoyed eating my food while watching families and groups of friends enjoying their time together. I also enjoyed my food - it was delicious! I went home with a full stomach, and that was my experience at the Valencia Sunday Market.
