I’m a “Foodie”! I love all kinds of food. Haha. Mostly, I adore cooking, developing recipes and having fun in the kitchen. However…HOWEVER, sometimes in life God blesses us with a SUPER- FIND, something that becomes our goto when we’re feeling down, something that helps you get through long days. Well, my find is Impact!

If you’ve ever eaten supermarket frozen packaged meals, you’ll know that they leave much to be desired. (I’m not sure how the rest of the world measures up, but this is certainly true in South Africa). What if you found a store that sold frozen food that tastes like homemade. It really, really does.

The deli is small, but packed with goodies. They run a food “factory” above the shop, but it’s a family business that has a long and proud history that began in 1957 when the family relocated to South Africa. They started a cheese factory that was slightly different - only free range. Nevertheless, in the beginning, they didn’t pasteurise their milk and they had to take all their products off the market, which nearly closed them down. Luckily, for us that is, they were resilient enough to start over from scratch, and today they run one of the best, most respected small businesses in the country.

The prices in the tiny shop are about a quarter of those listed at the supermarkets, and the quality is ten fold. I’m lucky to have found this little shop, because they don’t advertise at all. They, now, supply most of the takeaways and restaurants in my city, but they’re quiet about it and the deli is their only outlet to the general public.

So what have they got?

The first thing is a variety of frozen pastas for vegetarians and meat eaters- spinach cannelloni, ravioli. Also, the standard fare - bolognese, macaroni cheese.

Next they offer sauces - cheese, Alfredo, Napoletana

Then, cream, cheeses of all persuasions, butter, milk, gorgeous olives.

Then, frozen bulk ravioli, pansotti and gnocchi (to die for)

Then, frozen pizza bases, in a variety of sizes.

Dried pasta, canned Italian specialities

…and, yes, still more… a variety of baked pies and croissants.

This is a wonderland of magical delight, where everything tastes the way it should, no processed aftertaste, no preservatives - just excellent food at old fashioned prices.

This is the cannelloni which is totally delectable, below

Served with a side salad

I catered my mom’s birthday party from their offerings.

I only baked a cheesecake and made a chocolate mousse

Everything else came from IMPACT and it was sublime
