Market Friday Food Trip : Cosina Organica & Café De Metoli in Alegria, Cebu

Hello Hive,

Do you like spontaneous joyrides and unplanned food trips?

It was sunny, a huge contrast to the gloomy weather the previous days. My husband, @iamyohann, and I went for a scooter road trip while our daughter was at her friend's house. We drove from Moalboal to Alegria for 45 minutes.

It was nearly lunchtime and by the time we passed Badian he said, "Guess where we're going?" I honestly didn't have any idea as there were limited places to dine around this area. Later, we pulled up in front of a bamboo and concrete shack. He took me to this restaurant as a surprise.

Cosina Organica

Cosina Organica is a seaside Filipino restaurant on stilts in San Roque, Poblacion in Alegria along the National Highway. It is located near Alegria Municipal Hall and open daily from 9 am to 9 pm. They serve organic vegetables from vegetable farms in the mountains of Mantalongon.

We were greeted at the entrance by a lady wearing a mask. Healthy and safety measures in place, our body temperature was taken after we washed our hands. I quickly wrote our contact details down in a logbook. The reception area was adjacent to the kitchen and toilet facilities.

We crossed a footbridge that connected the main reception to the covered dining area above the sea. It had two private family rooms for functions. There was a TV but in my opinion, there wasn't any need for that. Unless it was meant to play karaoke.

It was quiet and had the dining area to ourselves. We sat close to the railing by the water and placed our order. We sipped our fresh coconut juice while we watched a young man zip past with his race boat on the calm sea.

Our dishes arrived within 30 minutes.

Vegetable Curry served with rice

Sizzling Beef Steak (Php 180)

While on a road trip in Southern Cebu, it would be a great idea to swim with large sea turtles in crystal clear waters after a sumptuous meal here. There are 5 sea turtles that now naturally live around this area. Forgetting our swimwear back home was our biggest regret.

Verdict: I highly recommend it. It offers an inexpensive meal by the sea overlooking sea turtles as entertainment.

We didn't end our joyride there. Yohann knew his wife is a certified coffee addict so we drove further south until, surprise surprise...

Café De Metoli

Café De Metoli is a local coffee shop located along the highway at Poblacion in Alegria. It started serving early this year and is open daily from 9 am to 10 pm. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee welcomed us at the door.

A quick trivia for you. I was curious about where the name was from. De Metoli was a combination of the first syllables of the owners' last names: Dela Cruz, Medallo, Torsiende, and Listones.

Frappes, iced coffee, pasta, and special fries are the most ordered on the menu. The fries are popular in the neighborhood and they sell about 3 kilos of these per day. Heavily full from lunch, I didn't get a chance to try them.

I ordered a plain black Cafe Americano (Php 90). It came with a graham cracker while Yohann ordered iced chocolate.

Verdict: Our coffee experience inside a quaint space with relaxing music was a perfect climax to our joyride. I highly recommend it when you're visiting Alegria.

That's it for today's #MarketFriday by @dswigle. Thank you for reading. Wishing you all a happy Friday and a great weekend
