Victory Market (Cordoba/Spain): An International Food Market

Hi,

It's finally Friday and it's time to participate again in the #MarketFriday organized by @dswigle.

Today's #MarketFriday actually happened a few weeks ago in the city of Cordoba (Spain) where I was with a co-worker.

It was Thursday when we arrived in Cordoba and because I had been in this city a few weeks before, I played tour guide around the city center, showing him some of the most beautiful places I had visited in 2023, such as the banks of the Guadalquivir river as it passes by the Roman bridge.

Next, once we were in the vicinity of the Roman bridge, we could not be in Cordoba without visiting the mosque-cathedral of Cordoba, but because it was about to close, we could only access for a few minutes to the courtyard of the orange trees and took the opportunity to take some pictures outside of it to the bell tower.

Since it was still early for dinner, we decided to walk around the center of the city and got lost in the old town among wonderful courtyards decorated with geraniums due to the arrival of spring.

It should be noted that in the month of May in this city an important contest is held, in which the residents of the city compete for an award for the most beautiful Cordovan courtyard.

After this intense walk, we moved from the historic center to the administrative center of the city and in that place we went to one of its mythical terraces where we enjoyed some summer red wines and its wonderful tapas.

After several summer reds and tapas, we decided to return to the hotel and that was when we discovered a market in the Victory Garde, where the music and the good atmosphere could be appreciated from outside and it was already in me the intention to go the next day after work to this market.

Victory Market

After leaving work and before making our way to the Seville airport, my co-worker and I decided to discover the Mercado de la Victoria that we had seen the day before with the intention of eating there.

Upon arrival, we were very pleased with all the decoration on the outdoor terraces of the enclosure, with large pots of flowers and some modernist sculptures emulating birds.

Once inside the market, at the main door I was surprised how several giant roses sprouted from the ceiling and how they were reflected in the upper support of the ceiling.

One of the big surprises I found in the market was that it was not the traditional Spanish market and that in it one could find food from various countries of the world.

Asian food

One of the most crowded stalls that took me a long time to take a picture of was an Asian food stall where there were Chinese, Japanese and Indonesian dishes.

Arabian food

Another stall that was very crowded was the Arabian food stall, where several delicious dishes could be seen in their displays.

Italian Food

A classic among classics is to be found in the markets Italian cuisine and of course with pizza as the main attraction.

Grilled meats

A spot that gave an appealing smell to carnivores like me was a small greasery where hamburgers and other pieces of meat were cooked.

Pork Sausages

A classic of Andalusia is its traditional Iberian pork sausage where hams, chorizos, salchichones and other sausages are the kings.

A very cheesy country

Spain is a country with a great variety of cheeses and to have a market without a cheese factory would be an incomplete market.

Dishes from around the world

Another of the most popular stalls at the time I arrived at the market was a stall that did not have a specific type of food, but rather offered fusion style dishes where Asian foods were combined with Arabic, Arabic with European and European with Latin American. An endless number of combinations with good popularity.

Seafood and Fish

One of the points that did not have much affluence to buy the food, but to take the product home was the seafood stand where there were some appetizing prawns.

Paella and Octopus

Another of the quintessential Spanish food stands, who doesn't know Spanish paella? Unfortunately, by the time we arrived there was no paella left and I had to choose another type of food for my lunch as I will show you below.

Fruits and Vegetables

Do you know any market without fruits and vegetables? The market stall had very appetizing fruit and vegetables. The oranges had a fresh smell that intoxicated the atmosphere.

Argentine food

The last of the stalls that I present to you in this market is the Argentinean food stall.

As I told you I love meat and Argentines treat beef exquisitely and therefore do not hesitate to buy a plate of beef tenderloin with garnish.

For its accompaniment there is nothing better than an Argentinean beer such as Quilmes, which is a smooth beer with a very pleasant taste.

As my partner and I are very good eaters, to accompany the tenderloin we ordered a combo of assorted Argentine empanadillas, whose fillings were spectacularly tasty.

As for the price we paid a total of about 20 euros each, which is a very good budget for the quality and quantity of food offered and taking into account that we drank two beers each.

Finally, I loved the market and especially the possibility of combining dishes from various stalls and take them to the table or buy the products and cook them at home.

Best regards.
