In fact, I don't want to and I can't, even if I could say I could use a million. Just to experience another lifestyle...
The title paraphrases the title of an old movie (1966) with Audrey Hepburn and Peter O'Toole, I know I liked it, I was 12 years old and at that age theft and embezzlement didn't seem like such big sins, if the thieves were sympathetic characters.
Well, I don't want to review this forgotten film, I, as an old cinephile, see similarities between movies and life all around me all the time. I thought I'd present a recipe I stole from a friend and when I said "stole" I instantly remembered the movie. That was the only resemblance to what was to come.
Because I haven't been shopping for a long time and I go through the market like a bullet, I don't have much "material" for the #marketfriday post. I was still inspired by our dear @dswigle and I think a recipe will save me this time.
Spicy salad with mushrooms and grilled cheese
Why do they say the recipe is stolen?
We were invited by our friends to their country house. That always means a barbecue... all kinds of meats for people and dogs. Actually for dogs and people because in this place the dogs always eat first!
Well, while the dogs were eating, my friend made a salad that I was very attentive to.
To steal the recipe!
In the past, craftsmen, and masters did not reveal their secrets to their apprentices. They had to learn for themselves from what they saw.
It was said that the craft is not learned, it is stolen!
That's pretty much what I remembered from what my friend did, with the help of these few photos...
... the rest was improvisation. Still, the credit goes to my friend.
Finally, let's get to work!
Ingredients:
mushrooms, grilled cheese, bell peppers, hot peppers, tomatoes, olive oil, green onions, salt, and pepper.
Not many ingredients, it's an easy salad to make. Clean the mushrooms and cut off the tails.
Place the mushrooms on the grill or a hot pan if you don't have or don't want to use the grill. The result is identical.
In addition to the mushrooms add peppers and tomatoes.
While they are cooking, we can cut the green onions into small pieces.
Place the onion in the salad bowl to wait for the rest of the ingredients.
Meanwhile, the pan is ready.
Empty the pan and put the cheese to bake. It must be a special grilling cheese that fries without melting.
We again use the time when the pan is on the fire to cut the mushrooms, peppers, and tomatoes into pieces...
... after the cheese is fried on both sides, cut it into small pieces.
The big mix is next. Putting the ingredients together!
Mixing the ingredients, i.e. everything I baked and chopped plus salt and pepper. A little olive oil. Classic recipe. I brought a little contribution. I added lemon juice and pomegranate sauce.
I got a warm salad that cools quickly. It's just as good hot as cold. I like it better hot.
I forgot to point out one thing. This salad has to be spicy. That's its charm, to burn the mouth! So you have to make sure the peppers are hot (after baking they are less hot).
You may have noticed that I didn't indicate quantities in the ingredients. This is a flexible recipe, it is up to you how you combine the ingredients. It's the kind of recipe that I love to make, with no strict rules. We need to have fun before we eat!
While you were sleeping (another movie title that hit me over the head), no... while I was working in the kitchen my wife and granddaughter were walking in the park. My god, I have a granddaughter! I still can't believe it...
I started thinking about flowers, a sign that the post is coming to an end, and.... #alwaisaflower!
Neighborhood marigolds. People who live in the neighborhood also plant flowers in the street in front of their houses. I do the same but I don't have marigolds.
