Think With Caffeine 2.0 - Earthquake, World Cup, And Attention Span

Is it just me or anything these days have become political that it's not enjoyable to follow anymore?

But before that, I finally get the time to sit down and talk about the earthquake that happened a few days ago. The earthquake shook West Java and caused some casualties and now even reported more deaths. Strangely though, from local social media, they don't really talk much about it. All I find was only festivities over world cup and how LGBTQ people should not exist according to locals netizens. There were insults here and there towards them that I think was not respectful at all. Even worse, religion were dragged into these long winded debate. it was simply appalling. It's another reason why this year I just simply don't follow the world cup. It's a massive shit show.

Another thing that still lingers in my mind was the soccer stampede that happened in Kanjuruhan Stadium a while ago. Fun fact, I was in the city when that happened. my dad knew the match would be deadly, we avoided the stadium route. As the evening gets darker, we heard police cars and sirens. We did not know that day would be the darkest history of football in the country and even one of the deadliest match in the world. Long story short, the case has not yet been resolved. This now even has it's own wikipedia page that said deaths are estimated to be 135. The were many speculating about the cause but the most apparent one is the use of tear gas. It was all over the news and social media for about a week until it died down, replaced by another festivities and another tragedies. Then, people move on.

This bring me into some kind of pondering that our attention span is very short. The content that I or you write today won't matter again tomorrow. Everything is short lived. Hive is not an exception. It's harder to get more comments even after 3-4 days of the content age. While at the same time, the payout window is still 7 days although in reality, we see that it's much harder getting votes/comment after a day mark. It doesn't matter that if you come here because of the interaction but I believe there are people who don't and would be disappointed to find out about that. Here's one thing that we all can learn from FTX and SBF himself, sometimes those who act like they are charitable, stingy with themselves, can be even greedier than those who don't. They might tell you money doesn't matter but it kinda does, and even more, in which I also personally have met some of this type of people.

Now back to old content, in the past my awesome friend @whatamidoing was making an effort to value great content that already past its payout and even attempting to make people engage with those great but overlooked post. I think that initiative was great. However I know, in business perspective, it's not profitable.

When was the last time you read a content over 8 days old? maybe a month ago or maybe years ago from Hive? did you ever tip them despite knowing that you can't vote it anymore?
