Protesters Clash with Police as Melbourne Enters 6th Lockdown

Hundreds of protesters marched through the streets of Melbourne in opposition to a snap seven-day Covid lockdown in the state.

Victoria’s sixth lockdown had been announced just hours previously by premier Daniel Andrews. The renewed stay-at-home order comes only 10 days after the last lockdown, in response to two new mystery cases.

Protesters lit flares, held anti-lockdown and anti-vax banners and chanted “No More Lockdowns!”, to which residents of nearby apartments reportedly shouted “Go home, idiots!”

Confrontations with police also turned physical as officers tried to disperse the crowd.

15 people were arrested during the demo.
