It turned out that the old batteries were fine but the camera had a motherboard malfunction which I got repaired.
It's been over a year since I got the camera repaired and the Enegon batteries that I bought purely for test purposes turned out to be just as good as the Canon batteries.
I've been using them for over a year and they are working fine.
I've seen videos about replacement batteries that say they are no good? That they are not as good as branded batteries? They say that they don't light up the menu system or that they don't tell you how much battery life is left?
None of these claims has been my experience. These batteries work exactly like the original batteries. In fact the last a little longer than the original batteries. Admitedly the original batteries are from 2014 and still work fine with no noticable loss of power. I'm not knocking Canon batteries. They work great if you can find real ones.
While researching information for this video I came across a lot of people complaining about 'fake' batteries that they had bought only to find that they didn't work or didn't work properly. Some of these counterfeits were big brand named batteries like Canon, Nikon and Sony so this counterfeiting is quite widespread.
The objective of this video is to point out that sometimes it may be better to buy a generic battery from a new manufacturer that has a track record of producing good products. Or pay full price from Canon et al directly.
In my experience these batteries work perfectly fine.
