There is in fact several different THC Compounds found in cannabis, There are 4 major types of THC available in the cannabis plant. They are THCA, THCV, Delta-8 THC, and Delta-9 THC. They all have somewhat different properties and medical benefits.
It has been a minute since I did a cannabis science article since my THCV article focused on the tetrahydrocannabivarin (THCV) the Second highest % naturally occurring variation of THC. This will serve as a continuation on the types of THC commonly focused on Like Delta-8 THC.
Of the 113+ cannabinoids that interact with our endocannabinoid system Delta 9 THC is by far the most psychoactive as well as having the highest occurring concentration commonly known as just THC
THC stands for delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol or Δ-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (Δ-9-THC). It is a cannabinoid molecule in marijuana (cannabis) that's long been recognized as the main psychoactive ingredient—that is, the substance that causes people who use marijuana to feel high.
THCA
THCA exists in the stems, leaves, and flowers of the cannabis plant. It is the only one of the four types of THC that has no psychoactive or mind-altering properties. The psychoactive effects of THC are caused as the chemical’s molecule attaches to CB1 receptors in the brain and nervous system; THCA’s structure doesn’t fit these receptors. It is, however, the source of the other 3 types of THC. This process is stimulated by applying heat and light to THCA. While sunlight and natural aging can cause the conversion of small amounts of THCA to its counterparts, the process can be enhanced through applying heat in other ways known collectively as decarboxylation. Heating the THCA molecule causes it to change its chemical composition and shape, making it able to fit into the body’s CB1 receptors.
THCV
THCV is another byproduct of THCA breakdown. While it is similar to Delta-9THC, it has a couple of distinct differences. First of all, it does not have mind-altering properties in low doses; however, when you use a strain high in THCV or take a high dose of it, the effects change and you will get a clear, stimulating high. The effects of THCV do not last as long as Delta-9 THC, though you may find you feel them more rapidly. It also has a higher boiling point (428°F vs 314°F), so people who choose to vape it need to turn their devices up to reap its benefits. If making edibles, you may not get the full effect of THCV without sacrificing some of the Delta-9 THC and some other cannabinoids as they begin to degrade at higher temperatures.
There is one significant difference between THCV and its better-known cannabinoid cousin: It actually functions as an appetite suppressant instead of making you hungry. It can, in fact, even limit the actions of Delta-9THC that give you the munchies. Scientists have found that if you are looking for a strain of cannabis to help you lose weight, something high in THCV and CBD will work better than one with comparable amounts of THCV and Delta-9 THC.
I suspect that THCV is responsible for the almost stimulant like effect that users can experience from certain sativa strains.
Durban Poison
This venerable strain has been around since the 1970s and is still widely available. That’s why it’s at the top of our list. While it’s not a THCV powerhouse like strains that have bred for that purpose, it has five times more THCV content (around 1%) than most weed you’ll be able to find. Durban Poison typically has between 15-25% THC, but THCV moderates the high so it delivers a cerebral, clear-head sort of effect.
Most of the High THCV strains have lineage that includes either Durban poison or another sativa landrace, every strain that produces THCV has to be related to a pure sativa. From what I can tell the current record holder for THCV production is (Jack the Ripper) With specimens testing at over 5%
Delta-8 THC
Not to be confused with THCV or Delta-9 THC (decarded THCA) Delta 8 THC is produced As Delta-9 THC ages and is exposed to oxidation, it is converted to Delta-8 THC. This conversion process makes the resulting cannabinoid stable when exposed to air, which could increase its potential applications.
Like a fine wine or chees Delta 9 THC develops with age and slowly becomes Delta 8 THC.
Delta-8 THC is not as potent as its sister cannabinoid, but it does still produce a high. The feeling produced tends to be less intense than what might be experienced with Delta-9 THC, with a more clear-headed and energetic result. Utilizing CBD with Delta-8 THC will further decrease any mind-altering effects experienced by the user.

This product is made by employing a thin film distillation–fractional distillation–of locally cultivated cannabis flower and trim. Their last batch of what they call AquaTek D8 Distillate, also known in the industry as Water Clear, tested at 58% delta-8-THC, 7.9% delta-9-THC, and 0.35% CBD.
