Well everyone,
It has been about a month and a half since we launched this community. Though we haven't reached insane levels of fame and fortune yet, we are actually growing quite steadily. We have approximately 140 staked users and we see around 20-25 active authors on any given week with many more actively curating.
One thing that I was concerned about when putting this community together was the idea that the NBA season would soon be coming to a close. It has been obvious, even regarding myself, that it is much easier to participate in a community like this when there it is a gameday. It is easier to think of something to write, comment on a post or react to a game when it is actually happening right in front of you. It was awesome to get this thing off the ground right in the middle of the best games of the year, but now it has come to a close rather quickly.
The good news is that we have the Olympics coming up in just 3 days! We got insanely lucky to have some great basketball continuing to be played this year in between NBA seasons. I am hopeful that we will continue to maintain high levels of engagement and participation as the days go on.
During this offseason, we will be working hard to continue to add innovations to the platform. We are talking with the team at Hive Slot Games to look into the possibility of creating a fantasy sports platform here on Hive where you would theoretically be able to spend tribal tokens such as the DUNK coin you have been earning for the last month and a half.
When it comes to building community, there has to be a reason for doing it. I want this place to be somewhere fun and informative for everyone that is participating; it would be a great added benefit if it was profitable as well but of course that is something that is not always in our control or we would all be millionaires. Where great communities are made, value will follow. That is my belief and is the main staple of a web 3.0. platform such as @dunksocial
It has been a great first few weeks, let's keep it going even though things will look a little bit different without the NBA.
