Aidu Quarry is a place where they used to mine oil shale. But since there is no mining for a long time, it's all filled with clear blue water now. It's located in East Estonia near Kiviõli - the name of this small town translates in English to shale oil. 😃
One small piece of the oil shale, that is used to produce shale oil and also electricity in Estonia.
A camping site, where you can eat, cook food on fire and sleep in a small shed with roof over you.
Wider view on one of the branch of water, on the map, the water in the quarry looks like a big fork.
Map from google maps - I was near the red spot when taking most of the photos.
Seems like there must be some fish here, since there was this fisherman.
It's a unique looking place. It kind of reminds me of Rummu quarry, but only because of the blue water. Since I was not exploring for long here, I want to come back again here one day to have more time to look around more.
First from far it seemed like a place to go swimming, but actually it was a raft.
You have to pull a rope to get with it to the other side - it was hard to get moving, but once it moved, it was nice and easy. Really a great thing it was there, so I could climb a bit higher to get better view around.
The hills in the distance are in Kiviõli a few km away.
But now time to look around Liimala beach.
There was also a tower to climb. Really nice.
And this building is Tulivee Hotel. A great spot for resting.
What a great view, it was just raining and the sea was covered with fog.
Just beautiful. Very nice sandy beach also.
There was a sign that this area on the other side is for sale.
After looking online I found out this is a small boat harbour area, that you could buy for €450k if you wanted. The land area is 45000m2 and the price per m2 is less than 10€.
So if any whale is reading this and wants to own a small harbour in Estonia, then here's the link 😀 https://www.kv.ee/muua-endine-purtse-kalasadam-hinna-sees-on-naaberk-2908858.html
