Pavlina was the daughter of a Roman jailer, she guarded the imprisoned Christians and according to history Pavlina was possessed and cured by St. Peter for whom Christians prayed. The jailer and his family believed in the new faith and were baptized, but this was punishable by death in Roman times.
The year was about 302 A.D. and Pauline and her mother were thrown into a pit and covered with stones.
In 1623, the Jesuit Lancicius brought to Olomouc, among other holy relics, the remains of St. Paulina from the Roman catacombs.
In the same year, the plague raged in Olomouc, and on the suggestion of Julius Caesar Giannini de Pisauro, on Sunday, 8 October 1623, a procession of supplication was sent out with the relics of St. Pauline. As the plague subsided after this procession, St. Pauline was made patroness of the city. Last year, I took part in the procession through the town with the relics of St. Pauline to St. Moritz Cathedral.
The procession has been repeated several times in the past and the largest one was in 1715, when two plague columns were erected - the Holy Trinity column in the Upper Square and the Virgin Mary column in the Lower Square.

na horním náměstí letos znovu staví sochu z písku, letošním kandidátem je Svatá Pavlína. No a kdo, krom toho že je patronkou města Olomouce Sv. Pavlína je?
Pavlína byla dcerou římského žalářníka, hlídali zavřené křesťany a dle historie byla Pavlína posedlá a vyléčil ji svatý Petr za kterého se křesťané modlili. Žalářník a jeho rodina uvěřili v novou víru a nechali se pokřtít, to však v době římské bylo trestáno smrtí.
Psal se asi rok 302 po kristu a Pavlína se svou matkou byli vhozeni do jámy a zasypání kamením.
Jezuita Lancicius v roce 1623 přinesl do Olomouce mezi jinými svatými ostatky i ostatky sv. Pavlíny z římských katakomb.
V témže roce řádil v Olomouci mor, Na návrh Juila Caesara Gianniniho de Pisauro v neděli 8. října 1623 vypravili prosebný průvod právě s ostatky sv. Pavlíny. Vzhledem k tomu, že po tomto průvodu mor polevil, ustanovili Sv. Pavlínu patronkou města. Loni jsem se zúčastnil průvodu městem s ostatky Sv. Pavlíny do chrámu Sv. Mořice.
Průvod se v minulosti opakoval několikrát a ten největší je z roku 1715, kdy byly vztyčeny dva morové sloupy - sloup Nejsvětější Trojice na Horním náměstí a sloup Panny Marie na Dolním náměstí.
