Even after several years in Japan, now and then there is still a first time for me. Of course, I have by no means seen and discovered everything in this beautiful country, but the great excitement that greeted me at the beginning of my time here in the land of the rising sun has long since disappeared. Now, rather a feeling of contentment and tranquility has taken over, which occasionally makes room for a little curiosity and wondering.
Of course, I had already noticed that there are quite different plants in Japan than in my home country, and I have already seen lots of them and have marveled and admired them. The lotus plant growing on several ponds has not escaped my attention, it has even found its way into Japanese cuisine. I would not like to miss lotus root dishes, especially steamed it is a delicacy. However, so far I had apparently not yet managed to see the lotus in bloom, although so many people rave about it.
The Indian lotus, which is called Hasu in Japanese, is actually an eye-catcher at almost any time. Mostly it impresses with its lush leaves and shoots, which can quickly spread all over the water. This year, however, I finally made it to see the lotus flower bloom, and I was of course pleasantly surprised. Actually, it was more of a coincidence but perhaps all the more beautiful for that reason.
On a pond several plants were in bloom and showed us their pink petals. Supposedly it should be most beautiful in the early morning, because after that the flowers start to close again. But since we were there, there was no reason not to be happy. On the contrary, our little walk was nicely rounded off by this sight.
And therefore I will share some lotus blossoms with you today. In different shapes and maybe not quite perfect. It would probably be best to have a ladder to be able to photograph these meter-high blossoms in the right way. Maybe another time, and then maybe at a slightly earlier hour. For the moment, today's photos will suffice for me to relax a little. Green and pink are a perfect combination, there is simply nothing to argue about that....

Auch nach mehreren Jahren in Japan gibt es für mich auch jetzt noch ab und zu ein erstes Mal. Natürlich habe ich noch längst nicht alles gesehen und entdeckt, aber die große Aufregung, welche auch mich zum Anfang meiner Zeit hier im Land der aufgehenden Sonne empfangen hatte, ist doch längst verschwunden. Nun hat sich eher ein Gefühl der Zufriedenheit und Gelassenheit breit gemacht, welches manchmal aber doch Platz macht für ein wenig Kuriosität und Neugier.
Dass es in Japan ganz andere Pflanzen gibt als in der Heimat war mir natürlich schon längst aufgefallen, und an so einigen bin ich auch schon vorbeigekommen und habe gestaunt und bewundert. Die auf etlichen Teichen wachsenden Lotuspflanze ist mir da natürlich auch nicht entgangen, hat sie doch sogar Eingang gefunden in die japanische Küche. Lotuswurzelgerichte möchte ich nicht missen, besonders gedünstet ist das eine Köstlichkeit. Aber bisher hatte ich es scheinbar noch nicht geschafft, den Lotus auch blühen zu sehen, obwohl doch so viele Menschen davon schwärmen tun.
Die Indische Lotosblume, die auf Japanisch Hasu heißt, ist eigentlich zu fast jeder Zeit ein Hingucker. Meistens beeindruckt sie durch ihre üppigen Blätter und Triebe, welche sich schnell über das ganze Gewässer ausbreiten können. Dieses Jahr habe ich es aber endlich auch einmal geschafft, die Lotusblume blühen zu sehen, und war natürlich angenehm überrascht. Eigentlich war es eher Zufall aber deshalb vielleicht um so schöner.
Auf einem Teich standen mehrere Pflanzen in der Blüte und zeigten uns ihre rosa Blütenblätter. Angeblich ist es wohl am frühen Morgen am schönsten, weil sich danach die Blüten wieder zu schließen beginnen. Aber da wir nun einmal da waren, gab es doch gar keinen Grund, uns nicht zu freuen. Ganz im Gegenteil, unser kleiner Spaziergang wurde durch diesen Anblick super abgerundet.
Und daher gibt es heute ein paar Lotusblüten zu sehen. In verschiedenen Formen und vielleicht nicht ganz perfekt. Man bräuchte wohl am besten eine Leiter, um diese meterhohen Blüten richtig fotografieren zu können. Vielleicht ein anderes Mal, und dann vielleicht auch zu etwas früherer Stunde. Für den Moment reichen mir aber meine heutigen Fotos, um mich ein wenig zu entspannen. Grün und Rosa sind eine perfekte Kombination, daran gibt es einfach nichts zu rütteln....
