THE HANGAR
A few days ago I was at an abandoned Soviet military airfield. Most of the hangars there are either closed or completely filled with rubbish or building materials. Fortunately, two of the hangars are freely accessible and empty. The best conditions for our nocturnal excursion. Together with @stepko and Hans Roufflair, we went to the hangars last Friday.
Vor einigen Tagen war ich auf einem verlassenen, sowjetischen Militärflugplatz. Die meisten, der dort stehenden Hangar, sind entweder verschlossen oder komplett mit Müll oder Baumaterialen voll gestellt. Zwei der Hangar sind glücklicherweise frei zugänglich und leer. Beste Voraussetzungen für unseren nächtlichen Ausflug. Gemeinsam mit @stepko und Hans Roufflair fuhren wir am letzten Freitag zu den Hangar.

First I painted the fireball. To do this, I had attached steel wool to a stick and then fixed it to a tripod. @stepko lit the steel wool and blew against it. I triggered the camera and then exposed the burning steel wool for a few seconds. I covered the camera and changed the aperture from 16 to 5.6. I cleared the tripod with the steel wool out of the picture. Hans and @stepko stood in the hangar and I lit the hangar and the two models with the orange Convoy S2+ and the 660nm torch.
Zuerst habe ich den Feuerball gemalt. Dazu hatte ich Stahlwolle an einem Stock befestigt und diesen dann auf einem Stativ befestigt. @stepko zündete die Stahlwolle an und blies gegen diese. Ich löste die Kamera aus und belichtete dann einige Sekunden auf die Brennende Stahlwolle. Ich deckte die Kamera ab und verstellte die Blende von 16 auf 5,6. Ich räumte das Stativ mit der Stahlwolle aus dem Bild. Hans und @stepko stellten sich in den Hangar und ich beleuchtete den Hangar und die beiden Models mit der orangen Convoy S2+ und der 660nm Taschenlampe.

Unfortunately, it didn't work out on the first try. I was already afraid that I would run out of steel wool. I had only put a small amount in. In this attempt, the scatterbrained light painter had shone himself into the picture and also painted funny light traces into the picture with the red torch.🙄
Leider hat das nicht beim ersten Versuch gepasst. Ich hatte schon die Befürchtung, dass mir die Stahlwolle ausgeht. Ich hatte nur eine kleine Menge eingesteckt. Bei diesem Versuch hatte sich der schusselige Lightpainter selbst ins Bild geleuchtet und zusätzlich mit der roten Taschenlampe noch lustig Lichtspuren ins Bild gemalt.🙄

The attempt is already much better. The foreground, however, was a little too dark for me. The cover picture was the third attempt. We left it at that, even though there was still potential to improve the picture.
Der Versuch ist schon deutlich besser. Der Vordergrund war mir allerdings etwas zu dunkel. Das Titelbild war der dritte Versuch. Dabei haben wir es dann belassen, auch wenn es noch Potential zur Verbesserung des Bildes geben würde.

I then photographed the starry night sky above the hangar. The light pollution is limited in this viewing direction. The bright "star" on the left above the hangar is Mercury and Neptune. The two planets were right next to each other that night. I am not an astronomer. So I don't know if this is a very special constellation or if you can admire this spectacle every three weeks in the night sky.
Ich habe dann noch den nächtlichen Sternenhimmel über dem Hangar fotografiert. Die Lichtverschmutzung hält sich in dieser Blickrichtung in Grenzen. Der helle "Stern" links über dem Hangar sind Merkur und Neptun. Die beiden Planeten standen in dieser Nacht direkt nebeneinander. Ich bin kein Astronom. Deshalb weiß ich nicht ob das eine ganz besonder Konstellation ist oder am dieses Schauspiel alle drei Wochen am nächtlichen Himmel bewundern kann.
