At Basantapur, Kathmandu

A tall temple standing at the entrance to Basantapur Durbar Square. This temple is known as Taleju temple. This temple is only opened once a year during the festival of Dashain. The same festival is being celebrated now. Today is the ninth day of same festival. And it opens today for Hindu people. There are three such temples one in Kathmandu Durbar Square, other in Bhaktapur Durbar Square and another in Patan Durbar Square. All were built during the reign of Malla Dynasty from 1201 to 1779. Inside the temple is the shrine of goddess Taleju Bhavani and Kumari.

One of the favourite and popular tourist spots, Basantapur has a lot of buildings and monuments that carries the history of ancient Nepal. This place once used to be a royal home to the king in the past. Now since monarchism has been abolished, this place has been opened for general public and tourists. But only VIP get chance to go inside it during special ceremony.
