It's February. Winter. And I think back to last summer, and I look forward to nature blooming again and being warm. It's best to reminisce over photographs. I have a lot of them on my phone and I'd like to share them with you.
Je únor. Zima. Vzpomínám na minulé léto a těším se, až příroda zase rozkvete a bude mi teplo. A nejlepší je vzpomínat nad fotografiemi. Mám jich v telefonu nezpracovaných ještě spoustu a rád bych se s vámi o ně podělil.
We are in the castle garden in Libochovice. About 50 km northwest of Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, in Central Europe. I took the previous photo from the top of this staircase.
Jsme v zámecké zahradě v Libochovicích. Asi 50 km severozápadně od Prahy, hlavního města České republiky, ve střední Evropě. Předchozí fotografii jsem pořídil z vrcholu tohoto schodiště.
The chateau was once a castle. It was built in an advantageous strategic position by the river. But I don't want to write its history here and now. Nowadays, the whole area is a jewel of Baroque architecture, including the garden. The Ohře River is incorporated into the castle garden. Or rather, there is an artificial arm on the river which is brought under the windows of the castle.
Zámek býval kdysi hradem. Byl vybudován ve výhodné strategické pozici u řeky. Ale nechci tady a teď vypisovat jeho historii. V současnosti je celý prostor klenotem barokní architektury, včetně té zahradní. Řeka Ohře je zakomponována do zámecké zahrady. Respektive je na řece vytvořena umělé rameno, které je svedeno pod okna zámku.
The nobility had a bridge built over the blind arm of the river for their pleasure. I can vividly imagine a baroque boating festival with music and fireworks. With the river separating the English and French gardens.
Panstvo si pro potěšení dalo vybudovat přes slepé rameno řeky most. Umím si tu živě představit barokní slavnosti na lodičkách s hudbou a ohňostrojem. Přičemž řeka od sebe odděluje anglickou a francouzskou zahradu.
An integral part of the Baroque garden is the sculptural decoration. From the left St. John of Nepomuk, St. Wenceslas, the Crucifixion sculpture, St. John the Evangelist, St. Joseph. A storm is approaching.
Nedílnou součástí barokní zahrady je i sochařský výzdoba. Zleva sv.Jan Nepomucký, sv.Václav, sousoší Ukřižování, sv.Jan Evangelista, sv.Josef. Blíží se bouřka.

I wrote about the French garden. So I must show it too. A chateau is a large complex of buildings with different functions. Residential for the nobility and servants, technical buildings, stables, granaries and many buildings for the dispersal of the nobility. It's difficult nowadays to keep all these buildings in good condition.
Psal jsem o francouzské zahradě. Takže ji musím ukázat také. Zámek je rozsáhlý komplex budov s různými funkcemi. Obytné pro šlechtu a služebnictvo, technické budovy, stáje, sýpky a mnoho budov pro rozptýlení šlechty. V dnešní době je obtížné udržet všechny tyto budovy v dobrém stavu.
Of course, maintenance has been difficult in the past too. But the chateau used to be the representative home of the owners of a large estate. There was forced labour for serfs, and the estate was profitable.
Údržba byla samozřejmě obtížná i v minulosti. Zámek však býval reprezentativním sídlem majitelů velkostatku. Pro poddané zde byla robota a panství vynášelo.

Součástí barokní zahrady je pochopitelně jezírko se sochou jako chrličem.
Of course, the orangery is not to be missed. Unfortunately, it is in a very bad condition. But it's being repaired.
Samozřejmě tu nesmí chybět ani oranžerie. Bohužel je ve velmi špatném stavu. Ale opravuje se.
I understand that it was not possible to preserve the whole huge garden and restore it to its original state. Some parts of the garden are therefore a necessary compromise between appearance, space and finances.
Chápu, že nebylo možné zachovat celou obrovskou zahradu a uvést ji do původního stavu. Některé části zahrady jsou proto nutným kompromisem mezi vzhledem, prostorem a financemi.
I was showing the garden you can see between the chateau and the river. That doesn't mean that there aren't other small gardens around the castle. But the storm is getting very close. We had to go somewhere to shelter from it.
Ukazoval jsem zahradu, kterou můžete vidět mezi zámkem a řekou. To neznamená, že kolem hradu nejsou další malé zahrady. Ale bouře se velmi blížila. Museli jsme se před ní někam schovat.
The ideal shelter from the storm seemed to be the Black Eagle restaurant on the square. It was just a short walk from the chateau.

We hid here with my family, my son and my wife, for about two hours.
Schovali jsme se tu s rodinou, synem a ženou, asi na dvě hodiny.
I remember that thanks to the family brewery Zichovec it was a pleasant time. Although the rest of my family might disagree.
