I remember having read that question many times in my university days, my physics professor would be fascinated explaining it with a professorial talk about dynamic systems, but words more, words less, this leads to the theory of chaos and the butterfly effect that point out that no matter how insignificant a minimal alteration in the initial variables of an equation or simulation may seem, the final result will be so unpredictable that it can trigger reactions that alter the entire initial projection, this hardly predictable end is considered chaos. These theories could then suggest that, if the past is altered in any way, no matter how slight, the future would vary irremediably in an uncontrollable way, because during that timeline the facts are constantly evolving. And well, from here on theories as fascinating as complex are developed, to which the world of cinema winks to immerse us in that fantastic world that interweaves past, present, and future. **Mirage** is a film directed and written by the Spanish _Oriol Paulo_ that evokes precisely that system that can become truly chaotic when it is drastically altered in its beginnings. It was 1989 when a particular storm occurred that opened a time portal, that storm was replicated 25 years later under the same weather conditions, allowing symmetrical parallel times between the past and the future, as seen. Sounds interesting, doesn't it?

_Source ##### ¿Será cierto que el aleteo de una mariposa podría desencadenar un huracán? >Recuerdo haber leído muchas veces esa pregunta en mi época universitaria, mi profesor de física se fascinaría explicándolo con una catedrática charla de los sistemas dinámicos, pero palabras más, palabras menos, esto conduce a la teoría del caos y el efecto mariposa que señalan que por insignificante que parezca una mínima alteración en las variables iniciales de una ecuación o simulación, el resultado final será tan impredecible que puede desencadenar reacciones que alteren toda la proyección inicial, a ese final difícilmente predecible se le considera caos. Estas teorías podrían sugerir entonces que, si se altera el pasado de cualquier manera, por mínimo que sea, el futuro variaría irremediablemente de manera incontrolable, pues durante esa línea de tiempo los hechos evolucionan constantemente. Y bueno de aquí en adelante se desarrollan teorías tan fascinantes como complejas, a las que el cine les guiña el ojo para sumergirnos en ese fantástico mundo que entreteje pasado, presente y futuro. >**Durante la tormenta**, es una película dirigida y escrita por el español _Oriol Paulo_ que evoca precisamente a ese sistema que puede volverse verdaderamente caótico cuando es alterado drásticamente en sus inicios. Corría el año de 1989 cuando ocurrió una particular tormenta que abrió un portal temporal, esa tormenta se replicó 25 años después bajo las mismas condiciones climáticas, permitiendo así tiempos simétricos paralelos entre el pasado y el futuro, según sea visto. Suena interesante ¿verdad?

Let's start... Vera Roy is a young woman who has just moved to a new house with her husband David and her little daughter Gloria, while they settle in and organize the move they find in a closet an old TV and a VCR dating from the 80s, there they also get a small collection of home videos. That night a storm begins with meteorological characteristics similar to one that occurred 25 years ago, time in which a boy named Nicolás Lasarte was recording a video in his house, a recording that was interrupted when he realized the noises that emerged from the house of his neighbors, where at that moment a murder was taking place. Curious to see if those old devices were still working, Vera and David connected them to play some of the old recordings found, curiously, after disconnecting everything, the TV began to transmit a news related to events that took place in 1989, with the novelty that there was no longer any tape playing, that seemed more like an open signal transmission. That night, while they were having dinner with neighbor friends, they mentioned what had happened, then they found out from them that the boy they saw on the tapes had been run over and killed that same night while fleeing from the scene of a crime.

*** >Empecemos…Vera Roy, es una joven mujer que se acaba de mudar a una nueva casa con su esposo David y su pequeña hija Gloria, mientras se instalan y ordenan la mudanza encuentran en un armario un viejo televisor y una videograbadora que datan de los años 80, allí también consiguen una pequeña colección de videos caseros. Esa noche inicia una tormenta con características meteorológicas similares a una ocurrida 25 años atrás, tiempo en el que un niño llamado Nicolás Lasarte grababa un video en su casa, grabación que se vio interrumpida al percatarse de los ruidos que emergían de la casa de sus vecinos, donde en ese momento estaba ocurriendo un asesinato. >Curiosos por ver si esos antiguos aparatos aun funcionaban, Vera y David los conectaron para reproducir algunas de las viejas grabaciones encontradas, curiosamente, después de desconectarlo todo, el TV comenzó a transmitir una noticia relacionada a hechos que se suscitaron en 1989, con la novedad de que ya no había cinta alguna reproduciéndose, aquello parecía más bien una transmisión de señal abierta. Esa noche, mientras cenaban con vecinos amigos mencionaron lo ocurrido, entonces se enteraron por ellos que ese niño que vieron en las grabaciones murió esa misma noche atropellado mientras huía de la escena de un crimen.

The neighbors' comment, although disturbing, did not cause a major impact on the new residents; however, they did not hesitate to investigate on the Internet the events that occurred at that time, discovering in the search a press release with a timeless confession of the details of the crime. A fact that caught David's attention. At midnight, Vera felt the need to get up and noticed the TV on, the portal opened by the storm continued its course, being that old TV the gateway between both eras, that is how Vera comes into contact with Nicolas, and warns him that he should not go to the house of his neighbors, because if he does, he will die. Her warning is not in vain, this variation in the time line will bring serious repercussions in the future, affecting Vera's present, because while she manages to save Nicolás' life, her own is about to be severely disrupted. When she wakes up that morning, her reality is different, her life is different, and Gloria, her daughter, no longer exists. Not only will it be difficult for her to tell what happened, it will be even more difficult to try to be believed, because her new life is far from the one she remembers and narrates. For everyone Vera is suffering from hallucinations, she seems to be alone in all this, but there is a detective who pays special attention to her case, the challenge for Vera will be to rely on the small details to synchronize the events in both timelines. Just like in 1989, the storm will last only 72 hours, just enough time for that portal to close again, and with it, Vera's hope of recovering her life, and her daughter.

*** >El comentario de los vecinos, aunque perturbador, no causó mayor impacto a los nuevos residentes; sin embargo, no dudaron en investigar en internet los sucesos ocurridos en ese entonces, descubriendo en la búsqueda una nota de prensa con una confesión atemporal de los detalles del crimen. Un dato que llamó poderosamente la atención de David. A medianoche, Vera sintió la necesidad de levantarse y notó el TV encendido, el portal abierto por la tormenta seguía su curso, siendo ese viejo TV la puerta de enlace entre ambas eras, es así como Vera entra en contacto con Nicolás, y le advierte que no debe ir a la casa de sus vecinos, porque de hacerlo, morirá. >Su advertencia no pasa en vano, esa variación en la línea del tiempo traerá serias repercusiones en el futuro, afectando el presente de Vera, pues mientras ella logra salvarle la vida a Nicolás, la suya está a punto de ser duramente trastocada. Al despertar esa mañana, su realidad es otra, su vida es otra, y en ella ya no existe Gloria, su hija. No solo le será difícil contar lo ocurrido, lo será aún más intentar que le crean, pues su nueva vida dista mucho de la que ella recuerda y narra. Para todos Vera está sufriendo de alucinaciones, parece estar sola en todo esto, pero hay un detective que presta especial atención en su caso, el reto para Verá será basarse en los pequeños detalles para lograr sincronizar los hechos en ambas líneas temporales. Igual que en 1989, la tormenta durará solo 72 horas, tiempo justo para que ese portal cierre nuevamente, y con él, la esperanza de Vera de recuperar su vida, y su hija.

What initially seems to be a strictly science fiction film, is impregnated with a gripping suspense to which is added a detective theme that I found fascinating, especially because it is a subject that I love, and in which I think they took very good care of the details to tie up ends or clues that point to the clarification of the facts. The cold, dark and gloomy atmosphere in which the scenes take place, is amazing, in particular kept me disturbingly attentive at all times. On the other hand, as the events evolve, the plot takes spectacular turns that end up spinning a story that fits perfectly. At first I associated the story with the theory of chaos and the butterfly effect, and I did it as an assumption that was later confirmed by the dialogues of the protagonists themselves, which make these assumptions very clear by openly mentioning the chaotic consequences of the so-called butterfly flapping, temporary alterations that end up generating a terrible chaos in the future, radically changing the final result in each case, although it is possible some rapprochement between the projected realities, the final reality always varies. The truth, I had not seen Spanish productions of this genre, at least not this good, because this one seemed brutal to me, it is important not to lose details because it depends on it to understand or not what it's all about.

_Source >Lo que inicialmente parece una película estrictamente de ciencia ficción, se impregna de un atrapante suspenso al que se le suma un tema detectivesco que me pareció fascinante, sobre todo porque es un tema que amo, y en el que creo que cuidaron muy bien los detalles para ir atando cabos o pistas que apuntan al esclarecimiento de los hechos. La atmósfera fría, sombría y tenebrosa en la que se desarrollan las escenas, es alucinante, en lo particular me mantuvo inquietantemente atenta en todo momento. Por otro lado, a medida que evolucionan los acontecimientos, la trama va dando unos giros espectaculares que terminan hilando una historia que encaja redondita. >Al principio asocié la historia con la teoría del caos y el efecto mariposa, y lo hice como un supuesto que luego confirmaron los propios diálogos de los protagonistas, los cuales dejan muy claro estas suposiciones mencionando abiertamente las caóticas consecuencias del denominado aleteo de mariposas, alteraciones temporales que por pequeñas terminan por generar un terrible caos en el futuro, cambiando radicalmente el resultado final en cada caso, aunque es posible cierto acercamiento entre las realidades proyectadas, la realidad final siempre varía. La verdad, no había visto producciones españolas de este género, al menos no ha así de buenas, porque esta si que me pareció brutal, eso sí, es importante no perder detalles porque de ello depende entender o no de que va todo.

Many films of this genre have been made, and surely better in many remarkable aspects, but considering that this is not a blockbuster, I thought the script was spectacular. By the way, I haven't mentioned it but Vera's husband, David, is played by Álvaro Morte, The Teacher from The Paper House, that as a point of reference because I know it's a series that has been widely seen here in Latin America. As for Vera, she is played by Spain's Adriana Ugarte. If you haven't seen them, and you like this kind of stories, I recommend it, it is available on Netflix's programming grid. >Se han hecho muchas películas de este género, y seguramente mejores en muchos aspectos destacables, pero considerando que esta no es una superproducción, me pareció espectacular el guion. Por cierto, que no lo he mencionado pero el esposo de Vera, David, es interpretado por Álvaro Morte, El Profesor de La Casa de Papel, eso como punto de referencia porque se que es una serie que ha sido muy vista aquí en Latinoamérica. En cuanto a Vera, es interpretada por la española Adriana Ugarte. Si no las has visto, y te gustan este tipo de historias, te la recomiendo, está disponible en la parrilla de programación de Netflix.
