Streets of Funchal

Funchal is the capital of Madeira, situated on the southern side of the island. We had been in Madeira for 4 days already but had not visited Funchal yet. Our Airbnb was about 10km away and one evening we decided to take a taxi to go there and find a good place to eat, plus look around a bit and see what there is to see. We were mostly near the coastal area at this time.

Sunset from the beach. Most of the beaches in Madeira are rocky, this is one of them.

Finding the restaurant in the evening was actually a hard task. The place is packed with tourists in the evening so we found ourselves walking back and forth for a place to eat. I took some photos during our search time.

A tree that looks like a giant flower, is pretty cool. One thing that Madeira is not lacking of is flowers overall. There are so many colorful yards everywhere in the city.

After we were finally done eating in a restaurant, I had one place I definitely wanted to visit and it was Madeira rum house. You can order yourself a rum tasting and that's what I did. They bring you 4 different rums and a leaflet with in-depth information about all of these.

The following photos are taken the next day after we came back from a tour and had a bit of time to see the streets in daylight. I sure mis the sunshine right now watching these photos. Although at that time my skin was pretty burnt after being in the sunshine all day and I preferred being under the shade at the time lol.

It was not the last time we explored Funchal. Later, during our travels in Madeira, we had some more places that we wanted to see including the huge market and a street of art. Will make a post of these eventually.
