Beaver Trail

This is part 2 of the Soomaa national park trip I took 2 weeks ago. This post is about the Beaver trail. As the name indicates, many beavers have made their home in this area.
Originally this was not the plan visiting this trail but we were in search of a drink(the visitor center was closed) and we saw the rail there. Since this was only was 1.8kilometers in length we decided to go.

This is more of a forest trail, not a bog you saw in my last post.

In the last post, I also talked about the flooding that happens in Soomaa when in some years the water level rises up to 5 meters.
In this photo below you see two signs on a tree, indicating the water level in 2010 and 2011. The whole forest was under deep water.

There was a small river, flowing through the woods. The trees you see fallen down there is all the work of beavers.

Here you can clearly see how they have chewed the trees.

When the water level is high, you can complete this trail with a canoe.

This tree that looks to be fallen down ages ago is absolutely huge, I can't imagine how old it is.

Even though it was not part of the plan to visit this trail, I didn't regret spending some on this.
Shame that we didn't see any beavers in action tho.
