El día de hoy les traigo una planta que fotografíe en estos días que salí a realizar una diligencia. Mientras caminaba de regreso a casa me llamo la atención su linda flor, con ese intenso y vibrante color amarillo, me recordó a las margaritas. Les confieso que nunca me había percatado de su existencia.
Today I bring you a plant that I photographed these days when I went out to run an errand. While I was walking back home I was struck by its beautiful flower, with that intense and vibrant yellow color, it reminded me of daisies. I confess that I had never noticed its existence.
Hoy decidí investigar sobre ella, para compartirla con ustedes, les cuento que se trata de una planta llamada Damiana y al parecer es familia de la maracuyá o parchita (como la conocemos aquí en Venezuela). Se le conoce popularmente también, por los nombre de oreganillo, rompe camisa macho, hierba de la pastora, pastorcilla, hierba del venado y en México como té mexicano.
Today I decided to investigate about it, to share it with you, I tell you that it is a plant called Damiana and apparently is family of passion fruit or “parchita” (as we know it here in Venezuela). It is also popularly known by the names of “oreganillo”, “rompe camisa macho”, “hierba de la pastora”, “pastorcilla2, “hierba del venado” and in Mexico as Mexican tea.
Por otro lado, este arbusto que llega a medir entre 15 cm a 2 mts, es conocido a nivel científico como Turnera Diffusa. La podemos encontrar a lo largo de la América Tropical, desde los 900 a los 2300 metros sobre el mar. Normalmente creciendo en terrenos áridos, como matorrales secos y pastizales.
On the other hand, this shrub that can measure between 15 cm to 2 mts, is scientifically known as Turnera Diffusa. It can be found throughout Tropical America, from 900 to 2300 meters above sea level. Normally growing in arid lands, such as dry scrub and grasslands.
Son varias las propiedades que se le atribuyen a esta planta desde servir de laxante suave, antidepresivo y estimulante, hasta llegar incluso a atribuirle propiedades afrodisíacas. Según mejora condiciones de impotencia y frigidez, siendo más eficaz en caso de que las causas son psíquicas, ya que actúa sobre los centros espinales.
There are several properties attributed to this plant, from serving as a mild laxative, antidepressant and stimulant, to the point of attributing aphrodisiac properties. According to improve conditions of impotence and frigidity, being more effective in case the causes are psychic, since it acts on the spinal centers.
Por último un detalle interesante, es que debido a que sus hojas son muy aromáticas, las utilizan tradicionalmente en México como aromatizante y saborizante, en un licor artesanal. Es más, debido a que este licor tradicional es muy similar al Triple Sec, en México usualmente se usa para sustituir el licor de naranja en el popular Cóctel Margaritas.
Finally, an interesting detail is that because its leaves are very aromatic, they are traditionally used in Mexico as a flavoring and flavoring agent in a handmade liqueur. Moreover, since this traditional liqueur is very similar to Triple Sec, in Mexico it is usually used to substitute the orange liqueur in the popular Margaritas cocktail.
