Climate is changing and so are the places we love
Yesterday I went with my mom and my brother to our beach house, near Terracina, in the lower side of Lazio. These days Italy is experiencing a moment of pure cold and many Covid-related restrictions, but fortunately in our region we were able to take advantage of one last day to visit the place we love the most.
It is absurd to see how the atypical cold due to climate change is so evident even at the sea. In fact, I have never seen snow on the mountains surrounding the seaside resorts of this place. Instead, especially towards the hinterland, where in any case the climate is increasingly harsh compared to the maritime area, a rather dense layer of snow on the top of the mountains was very visible.
This was supposed to be a day with bright sunshine, according to the weather forecast. Yet it turned out to be a full cloudy day, and thanks to thei clouds interference in the sun's rays, we were given moments of pure magic to photograph by the sea and beyond.
The high pressure allowed for a great visibility, thanks to which even the most distant islands, such as Ischia and Procida, were clearly visible to the naked eye, just like the Pontine Islands, which are generally more easily visible from the Gulf of Terracina.
Traveling along the coast by car, we arrived in San Felice and from here, its tourist port offered us an amazing overview of the entire Gulf.
The road towards home, cutting through Sabaudia, gave us the opportunity to admire, albeit from the car window, the beautiful game of colors in the clouds, the rays of the sun that infiltrated it, and the sea water that mirrored everything.
From the seafron of Sabaudia, towards the Pontina road to Rome, you cross the beautiful bridge that splits in two the salt lake of Sabaudia, from which you can admire the profile of Mount Circeo, the famous profile of the Maga Circe who, in the Odyssey, tried to seduce and stop Ulysses from restarting his trip to Ithaca, his homeland.
From Pontina then, always careful to see the landscapes and the colors of the sunset from the back seat of the car through the window, I managed to capture moments of light and game of colors that rarely happened to me to capture from a moving car.
I just hope my generation is more thrifty than those that preceded us. May our common sense guide future ruling classes to take more respectful actions for our Planet, because climate change is not the result of randomness, but a consequence of the actions of humanity. Although it is extraordinarily and selfishly beautiful to photograph the snow on the mountains of lower Lazio, it is not a natural climatic condition.
...I purposely did not mention the cold we suffered, because our "suffering" is only one of the latest side effects of the climate crisis. I hope you enjoyed my shots, leave a comment with your feedback!

Il clima sta cambiando e così anche i posti che amiamo
Ieri sono stata con mia mamma e mio fratello alla nostra casa al mare, nei pressi di Terracina, nel basso Lazio. In questi giorni l'Italia sta vivendo un momento di puro gelo e tante restrizioni, ma fortunatamente nella nostra regione abbiamo potuto approfittare di un ultimo giorno per fare una visita al posto che più amiamo.
E' assurdo vedere come il freddo atipico dovuto al cambiamento climatico sia così lampante anche al mare. Infatti, non mi è mai capitato di vedere la neve sui monti che circondano le località di mare di questo posto. E invece, soprattutto verso l'entroterra, dove in ogni caso il clima è sempre più rigido rispetto alla zona marittima, era visibilissimo uno strato piuttosto denso di neve sulle sommità dei monti.
Questa doveva essere una giornata con un sole splendente, a detta delle previsioni meteo. Eppure si è rivelata una giornata piena di nuvole che, grazie alla loro intromissione nei raggi solari, mi hanno regalato momenti di pura magia da fotografare in riva al mare e non solo.
L'alta pressione permetteva una grandissima visibilità, grazie a cui anche le isole più lontane, come Ischia e Procida, erano ben visibili ad occhio nudo, proprio come le Isole Pontine, che sono generalmente le più facilmente visibili dal Golfo di Terracina.
Percorrendo il litorale in macchina, siamo arrivati a San Felice e da qui, il suo porto turistico, offriva una visibilità strabiliante su tutto il Golfo.
La strada verso casa, tagliando per Sabaudia, ci ha dato modo di ammirare, seppur dal finestrino dell'auto, il bellissimo gioco di colori tra le nuvole, i raggi del sole che vi si infiltravano, e l'acqua del mare che specchiava il tutto.
Dal lungomare di Sabaudia, verso la strada Pontina per Roma, si passa sul bellissimo ponte che divide il lago salato di Sabaudia, da cui si ammira il profilo del monte Circeo, il famoso profilo della Maga Circe che, nell'Odissea, ha cercato di sedurre Ulisse e fermarlo dalla ripartenza per tornare verso Itaca, la sua patria.
Dalla Pontina poi, sempre attenta a scorgere i paesaggi e i colori del tramonto dal sedile posteriore della macchina attraverso il finestrino, sono riuscita a catturare dei momenti di luce e giochi di colori che raramente mi è capitato di catturare da una macchina in movimento.
Spero soltanto che la mia generazione sia più parsimoniosa di quelle che ci hanno preceduto. Che il nostro buon senso guidi le future classi dirigenti a compiere azioni più rispettose per il nostro Pianeta, perché il clima che sta cambiando non è frutto del caso, ma conseguenza delle azioni dell'umanità. Per quanto sia straordinariamente ed egoisticamente bello fotografare la neve sui monti del basso Lazio, non è una condizione climatica naturale.
...non ho volutamente menzionato il freddo che abbiamo sofferto, perché la nostra "sofferenza" è solo uno degli ultimi effetti collaterali della crisi climatica.
