Mount Semprevisa has always been fascinating to me. I love the way it tires you off and enlightens your eyes and soul every time you decide to hike its path. It is tough, no doubt about it, and so is it beautiful as much. You only need to be patient, the mountain always pays back its bill.
We decided to go hike in March, thinking it would not have been too cold. Yet, we were surprised by the Semprevisa, once again!
At first the day seemed to be nice and sunny but as we were heading to the peak, the clouds starting to approach and a cold wind began to blow, making it harder for us to keep hiking, also because, as I already said in other posts about the Semprevisa, this hike is extremely hard. Not only for its elevation gain, but especially for its length and difficult terrain, very unstable and variable throughout the way.
But we took our time: for Riccardo that was his first time hiking that path and I wanted him to enjoy all the view points and different types of landscapes the mountain has to offer. In some parts you find yourself walking into the woods, and after a couple of kilometers everything changes and you are on an open field of grass with wild horses around.
I clearly remember his face of disappointment when, arriving at the grass field with the horses, I told him that was not the final point, as the peak was at least 30' of walk ahead of us... ahahah he was so upset! Indeed, at that point, we had already hiked for almost 2 hours uphill, and it would have made sense that was the arrival spot. After a couple of minutes of disappointment, we kept going but then soon we realized my forecast was very wrong: we met a couple of hikers on our way, they were going down. We asked them how long was left for us to the peak, and they said 30' more... but we had started again to hike for 30' already, so my initial forecast was wrong by half an hour... my bad!!! ahah
Fortunately, on our struggling way, the snow popped up to surprise us! In the previous weeks the temperature was very low and it rained a lot in the city, meaning that there, in the mountains, it was snowing. A little bit of snow was still there, as in some parts, where the trees cover the terrain, the snow resists and melts slowly. I love the snow, maybe because I rarely have the chance to see it. It made my day because I didn't expect to still encounter the snow on our way, at the beginning of March! Lovely, I have to say. And also Riccardo was quite happy with that surprise.
The arrival was pretty windy and cold! We were happy to be there but also we were looking forward to going back down! I remember I was freezing and afraid it was going to rain so we quickly ate our lunch and began to hike down. Of course, it was worthy, it always is, and I a looking forward to going back there, suffering the hike but enjoying the natural beauty of Semprevisa.

Il Monte Semprevisa mi ha sempre affascinato. Amo il modo in cui ti stanca e illumina i tuoi occhi e la tua anima ogni volta che decidi di percorrere il suo sentiero. È duro, non c'è dubbio, e quindi è altrettanto bello. Basta avere pazienza, la montagna ripaga sempre il conto.
Abbiamo deciso di fare un'escursione a marzo, pensando che non sarebbe stato troppo freddo. Eppure, siamo rimasti sorpresi dal Semprevisa, ancora una volta!
All'inizio la giornata sembrava essere bella e soleggiata, ma mentre ci stavamo dirigendo verso la vetta, le nuvole hanno iniziato ad avvicinarsi e ha iniziato a soffiare un vento freddo, rendendo più difficile per noi continuare a camminare , anche perché, come ho già detto in altri post sul Semprevisa, questa escursione è durissima. Non solo per il suo dislivello, ma soprattutto per la sua lunghezza e il terreno difficile, molto instabile e variabile lungo tutto il percorso.
Ma ci siamo presi il nostro tempo: per Riccardo quella era la prima volta che percorreva quel sentiero e volevo che godesse di tutti i punti panoramici e dei diversi tipi di paesaggi che la montagna ha da offrire. In alcuni tratti ti ritrovi a camminare nel bosco, e dopo un paio di chilometri tutto cambia e ti trovi su un campo aperto di erba con cavalli selvaggi intorno.
Ricordo chiaramente la sua faccia delusa quando, arrivando alla pianura con i cavalli, gli dissi che non era il punto finale, dato che la vetta era a almeno 30' di cammino da quel punto... ahahah era così sconvolto! In effetti, a quel punto, avevamo già camminato per quasi 2 ore in salita, e avrebbe avuto senso che quello fosse stato il punto di arrivo. Dopo un paio di minuti di delusione, siamo andati avanti ma poi presto ci siamo resi conto che la mia previsione era molto sbagliata: abbiamo incontrato un paio di escursionisti sulla nostra strada, stavano scendendo. Abbiamo chiesto loro quanto tempo mancava alla vetta, e loro hanno detto 30' in più... ma avevamo ripreso a camminare già da 30', quindi la mia previsione iniziale era sbagliata di mezz'ora... peccato! !! ahah
Fortunatamente, durante la nostra strada faticosa, la neve è spuntata per sorprenderci! Nelle settimane precedenti la temperatura era molto bassa e in città ha piovuto molto, il che significa che lì, in montagna, nevicava. C'era ancora un po' di neve, perché in alcuni punti, dove gli alberi coprono il terreno, la neve resiste e si scioglie lentamente. Amo la neve, forse perché raramente ho la possibilità di vederla. Ha migliorato la mia giornata perché non mi aspettavo di incontrare ancora la neve sulla nostra strada, all'inizio di marzo! Incantevole, devo dire. E anche Riccardo fu abbastanza contento di quella sorpresa.
L'arrivo è stato piuttosto ventoso e freddo! Eravamo felici di essere lì, ma non vedevamo l'ora di tornare giù! Ricordo che stavo gelando e temevo che stesse per piovere, quindi abbiamo pranzato velocemente e abbiamo iniziato a scendere. Certo, ne è valsa la pena, lo è sempre, e non vedo l'ora di tornarci, soffrendo l'escursione ma godendomi la bellezza naturale del Semprevisa.
