Mini photo safari on Dartmoor

We had a few nice days last week so I decided it was a good time to take a few new camera bits out for a walk.

First up was my Manfrotto Travel backpack. It's a great size for putting the Olympus EM 5 and a bunch of lenses in the padded section with plenty of room for a waterproof, always useful on Dartmoor, and flask, and some snacks. I have a feeling it is going to become my holiday carry-on luggage once we can fly again.

So the first lens to try out was the Olympus Zuiko 17mm F1.8. Really nice in the low light and shadow under these trees by the water.

And also great for wider angle landscape shots.

More shadows the moss on the trees must be an inch thick

and back on the path, most of the walks around Fernworthy Reservoir are easy to follow.

The first main stop is the Fernworthy stone circle.

This late bronze age stone circle would once have been on the open moor before the forest

There is a lot of wildlife about including this noisy little fellow.

And a few deer from these tracks

Back into the deep forest for a bit and getting dark again under the trees but no problem with the F1.8

So out onto the open moor and a lens change to the Zuiko 45mm F1.8 prime lens

Still, some water in the streams I think this is the headwater of the River Teign. Time to get my feet wet, I think I should have packed a polaroid filter.

Second Prehistoric monument of the day and the rare twin stone circle of the Grey Wethers.

Time to take the pack off and stop for a cupper.
PA150043.jpg

Bit of a slog uphill to get back into the forest.

Back in the Forest and a long walk to the final Monument but the paths are still nice and dry as long as you keep away from the roads the logging trucks are using which have got very muddy. So it's back on with the 17mm F1.8

It last monument of the day the Assycombe Stone Row. It's very impressive over 100m long.
