A face only a mother could love

So creepy

This morning while on our walk, my wife found this massive caterpillar walking across the sidewalk. This thing was probably about 4 inches long and as fat as my thumb.

We brought it to our backyard and I grabbed my camera to start getting some shots of this thing.

It was a bit shy at first, but then started to explore around the rocks and little plants.

It looks like a desert scene with a massive monster exploring around. This caterpillar reminds me of the fat one from A Bug's Life.

Hopefully when it turns into a butterfly, it will have bigger wings than the one in the cartoon.

This thing was a master at climbing up the sides of the rocks. But once I looked closer at its tiny feet, I could see why.

Its tiny feet looked like venus fly straps with itty bitty claws in them that latched onto the surfaces they walked on.

It is crazy to look at something like this and see how tiny these little feet are and to think about the years of evolution that this bug went through to get these tiny claws that help it survive.

Its feet were like tiny mouths that opened and clasped down on whatever it was walking on so that it would be able to keep secure to it. It is pretty fascinating to think of all the different traits that living things have to help them survive.

Bugs are so weird. This is just one of the ugly and fascinating things that most people just don't even take the time to look at closely and see how crazy nature is. I am glad that my wife found it on our walk. Hopefully we can find some other cool looking bugs to get some shots of.
