The Early Sakura ~ Beauty of Japan

Behold—the Kawazu Cherry Blossoms!

Aren't they lovely?

The most common type of cherry blossoms today, the pale white ones that you see lining rivers in all the photos of Japan floating around on the internets today, is called Someiyoshino (so-may-yo-she-no) and it starts to bloom around April. But there are actually hundreds of types of sakura. Here, in the photo above, is one of them.

Pictured is Kawazu cherry blossoms. This type is more pink than Someiyoshino and slightly larger. It also blooms much earlier, at the end of February and beginning of March, usually at the same time as the ume blossoms. While they aren't as beloved as Someiyoshino, but you still find them here and there. Like here!
