Santa Fe Revisited

It's getting to be just about road trip season. The kids are back in school, the folks with 'real' jobs are doing their best imitation of what they think an adult is, and the worst of heatstroke weather is behind us.

Just shy of five years ago I took advantage of this to make a high speed run with a friend out to Santa Fe, New Mexico. We only had seven days to get there and back so we ended up only spending two days exploring Santa Fe.

That trip was a blast even with all the driving but a little more time to poke around would have been nice. Been meaning to get back there ever since I got home, here in a little over a week my partner and I will be doing exactly that.

In honor of that I had to edit some photos from my first visit. These photos are in no particular order but are from Cadillac Ranch, Santa Fe Plaza, and Tent Rocks.

We're going to try and do a better job of taking it easy this time, giving ourselves some time to explore each city we stop in on our way out there. Looking forward to doing some meandering in St. Louis, Tulsa, and Amarillo. Anybody got the dirt on those places?

Realized today that the Republicans are conspiring against me. Unless they learn a new trick in a hurry that doesn't involve a government shutdown, we're going to be leaving just as the federal government goes on lockdown. For the most part that shouldn't affect our plans but our first stop was going to be the Gateway Arch in St. Louis, which happens to be a national park. Can still get photos, just can't get to the top of it.

Anybody got something good to say about Tulsa? Thought about looking into the massacre there but they've spent the past century covering that up, doubt there'd be much to see. Gotta be something good there but all I can think of is country music.

Amarillo has Cadillac Ranch and we're going to be right next to the old Route 66, pretty sure that will keep us busy. The thing I'm looking forward to the most is getting another shot at the adobe. The historic district in downtown Santa Fe dates back to the early 17th century and it's something to behold. Didn't have the time nor the lenses to do it proper justice when I was there before, hope to remedy that soon.

All of these landscape shots are from Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument outside Santa Fe. Spent a day there in 2018 and got a little carried away editing.

Between the slot canyon and the voodoo hoodoos it's difficult to not get carried away. Especially if you're in the slot canyon when it rains.

Don't know if we'll make it there this time, so get your fill now.

There's some sort of big balloon shindig going on in Albuquerque while we're out that way so we're going to swing by and take a gander at that on our way home. Apparently it's the biggest hot air balloon festival in the world, suspect there's a photo or two to be had.

That's enough old photos, should have some new ones soon, so don't say I didn't warn you. Drop me a comment if you've been to St. Louis, Tulsa, Amarillo, or Santa Fe and have any suggestions for fun things to do or see.

Now all I have to do is get on Tulsa Time.
