Art of the (extra)ordinary

Art is subjective right?
It's beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder. There are temples of art such as galleries, museums, monuments and architecture where we pay homage to the creative artistry of Man.
But there is art in ordinary everyday things that everyday creative artists have made. Here are a few examples I have come across in my city.
First a piece I created myself without even realizing it.I don't consider myself an artist but in a few seconds while doing the mundane household chores I came up with something I was quite proud of, even though it is strictly instant modern art and by it's nature not made to last.

This may make it clearer-A person's eye view.

So that particular medium is only limited by your choice of Toilet Duck liquid!
So this a free stock image of a pair of gumboots. They look pretty shiny and new but here in New Zealand out in the pastures of cows and sheep where they are used by farmers for hard work they soon become pretty shitty pretty fast. So what do you do with all those old crapped out Gumboots?

I made this Sheepdog installation art piece for a farmer friend out of his old gumboots and coated it in old diesel from his tractor to give it a shiny coat. You could paint one or make it specific dog breed (a Dalmatian?)Kids can sit on it and it is fully weather proof-so it will last for years.
It is also saving the planet one gumboot at a time! Note the ears made by cutting the boots and exposing the inner.Woff Woff!

So you want to celebrate some special occasion with some balloons, maybe a few at the gate for a kid's birthday or some spread around a bar for a private function. With just a bit more time and money and your imagination-plus some help from friends or family you could do something like this!

If you are going to ride a bike or electric ride-on you can go the extra mile and make it your own personal artistic statement-why settle for ordinary??

We all know food photography stretches the truth when it comes to image vs actual product. I found this fake croissant made out of sponge and cloth and paper and other bits and pieces in an opp shop, tidied it up with a lick of paint and dye then photographed it in all it's totally fake splendour-delicious!

A car or motorbike can be not just a mode of transport but also a moving piece of art that also speaks of the owner's personality-eccentric or exhibitionistic.

Origami birds and flowers are cute and even kids can come up with some artistic pieces. But this bride went the extra mile to make her own unique wedding dress out of recycled cardboard-exquisite as long as it doesn't rain on wedding day!

Of course Nature is the best artist of all-this spider probably didn't realise just how beautiful the web it created was-or maybe it just wanted to stand out from the rest.

Tyres can be pretty boring to look at-why not pimp them up a bit-this could be a stand alone installation-love that pink!

Actually the owner is an artist friend and he did it to make his car stand out from the crowd. He also reckons it makes his car go faster and has added value!

With two contrasting subjects even the ordinary can become beautiful-good things to play with are household items -especially during lockdown!

And finally when it's time for that haircut why not go out on a limb and go for something special-if it turns out a shocker just shave it all off and start again!

So there is Art of the ordinary all around us-try your hand at creating stuff and surprise yourself with you artistic endeavours.Keep your eyes open for beauty in the mundane around your city or town or village-there is an artist in everyone!
