Colorful Durian Pancakes with Homemade Sauce [Food Photography]

Step by Step Food Plating
And Carrot Sauce Recipe


A hot day makes the mood messy. My little nieces and nephews want something sweet.

I am thinking of buying durian desserts in the form of “Durian Pancakes”. I decided to order online from a food ordering app.

Our whole family loves “Durian Pancakes” so it doesn't matter at all if I order this dessert for a hot afternoon, even if it's not entirely as a dessert. I've bought them for IDR 55 K or around USD3.6.

Look at their colorful colors. My little nieces and nephews are very happy with these “Durian Pancakes”.

I immediately thought of doing plating. I am happy to practice my plating skills.




CARROT SAUCE

Before plating, I thought about the sauce to garnish these desserts. There is a supply of carrots. So without thinking I would have made a carrot sauce.

Carrot Sauce Ingredients

  • 150 ml of carrot juice, filtered the juice.
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch.

How To Make Carrot Sauce

Prepare carrot juice. Strain the carrot juice after blending.




- Step 2

Transfer to a saucepan. Add 3 tablespoons of cornstarch. Cook until it boils, stirring constantly so that the mixture does not clump.

Turn off the heat, then stir to remove hot steam. And carrot sauce is ready to be used as a complement to the plating session.

PLATING SESSION

Ingredients in a serving plate:

  • Durian Pancakes
  • Red and Green Popcorns
  • Carrot Sauce
  • Chocolate sweetened condensed milk



STEP BY STEP PLATING


Step 1

Set the Durian Pancakes on a serving plate. Because the pancakes are so soft, I have to be careful to remove them so they don't break and keep their shape when laid out on a serving plate.




Step 2

Add chocolate sweetened condensed milk at certain angles. After finishing arranging the sweetened condensed milk, then add the carrot sauce on the other sides.

The important thing when adding sauce is to pay attention to the balanced composition on the plate.

Add green and red popcorns to complement the details.

As a final step, I add carrot sauce on the other side to keep the serving plate from getting too empty.

I admit I finished this stage not very well. It's still a mess and I've added too much sauce. Even though my initial intentions and expectations were not like this final result.
