Random Ladybird Lodger moved into our Home

Ladybug or Ladybird

Whether you call them ladybugs or Ladybirds, we can all agree that these guys are cute little bugs.

It's interesting what certain colours and cultural norms do for us. Show me a ladybird and I think lovely look at that cool little guy. Show me an earwig and I want it as far away from me as possible. There's just something about earwigs I do not like.

Anyway enough of earwigs, this post is about our red and black spotted little friends that we call Ladybirds here in Ireland.

Tidy Up

It's a bank holiday in Ireland today in lieu of yesterday's St. Patrick's Day and we did not have any plans in particular, so we rolled up our sleeves and got some house work done. Hoovering, dusting, cleaning and all of that kind of jazz.

I was almost finished when I spotted a crumb on the edge of our couch and picked it up to put in the bin, which is when I realised we had a lodger that I didn't know about. At this first I thought the little guy was dead.

He or she was just sitting still watchint the world go by and I decided to take a snap or two. I almost jumped out of my skin when the little guy began to move!

He or she was a friendly little fellow and made no effort to run away, so I got a few more photos of them on our mat, which incidentally I had just hoovered, but we have two dogs, so there always going to be some renegade hairs as you'll see in the photos below.

Here's a closer look at our black and red little lodger friend.

Not close enough? Ok let's go 4 times zoom to finish off.

The kids really liked the little guy and wanted to keep them as a pet 🐢🐞😁
