"All insects seen up close are horrifying, honestly, but what can a fragile butterfly do to you?" I always tell her. But she walks without fear along the rocks to where I have marked before. Once she has achieved stability in the agreed place, she begins to move: she raises her arms and looks at me, she raises the ruffles of her dress and plays with them. At that moment you can't hear the waves or the wind in the mangroves, only the shutter of my camera working incessantly.
Alejandra protesta cuando hay mariposas cerca de ella, pero si le digo que camine sobre rocas incómodas con posibilidad de resbalar y caer en las algas durante la marea baja, no tiene ninguna objeción. Es la segunda bailarina que conozco que no le gustan las mariposas. Dice que de cerca -muy cerca- son feas. "Todos los insectos vistos bien de cerca son horripilantes, la verdad, pero qué te puede hacer una frágil mariposa?", le digo yo siempre. Pero ella camina sin miedo por las rocas hasta donde yo le tengo marcado. Una vez lograda su estabilidad en el lugar acordado, comienza a moverse: levanta los brazos y me mira, alza los vuelos de su vestido y juega con ellos. En ese momento no se oyen las olas ni el viento en los manglares, solamente el obturador de mi cámara funcionando sin cesar.
