A new week begins in our beloved community The Minalist, a place to share many aspects of our daily life through a simpler and more focused vision to live valuable experiences.
This week we will talk about how to improve your mood. That's why in this post, I share what is my perfect routine to overcome a low mood (option 3). If you want to know more, I invite you to keep reading.
Every day we do not have the same level of energy and positive thoughts. It influences our mood, which sometimes makes us unproductive. However, it is our responsibility to recognize when we are in this mode to get out of it soon. To lift my mood, I found music to be a fantastic tool.
Many years ago, I worked many miles away from home. I had to get up early in the morning to take the highway. It took me 2 hours of unbearable traffic. It was a daily routine. Waking up knowing that you have to face this and many other things make you in a bad mood or depressed. I was getting up in a very low mood. I hated not having another job. It was making me bitter.
My husband saw every day how as soon as I opened my eyes, I was already in a terrible mood, until one day he played music to wake me up. It was a beautiful melody, and the lyrics were even more beautiful. Little by little, I woke up hearing phrases like these:
Do you know what song it is? Yes! it is the beautiful song 'What a wonderful world' performed by Louis Armstrong.
This song is an ode of gratitude for being alive. That is the true meaning when we wake up every day. We are lucky to wake up to a new day, so we can't waste it in a bad or low mood. We are not immune to circumstances that affect our mood, but we can "turn the tables" and look for things that awaken our joy. From there, my husband would play this music every morning to wake me up, and I discovered that I had a great ally in music.
I always try to sleep well. However, if insomnia takes hold of me, I may start the day with low energy. That's the reason I prioritize eating breakfast. I take my time to eat calmly and pamper myself with the things I like eat. Good coffee is a must. On the other hand, I cover myself in oil. What kind of oil? one that allows all the negative things to slide off me 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I program myself so that nothing steals my good energies (even if they are few).
Sometimes some people sense your mood is low and try to bring it down even more. Over time I have learned to identify them. What do I do if a person like that comes across my day? I take it lightly and apply inverted psychology. How is this? I try to laugh at what can make me angry or sad so that it is less important. I don't take anything personally. When the person who is attacking my mood realizes that I'm on a different wavelength, he gets tired and looks for another target 🤣🤣🤣🤣.
Another thing I do is to fill my environment with positive messages, either written on a sticker next to my laptop screen or by listening to them frequently. I am not an audiobook person, but I am a true believer that the constant repetition of a positive message gets into your brain and releases endorphins that keep your mood up to the point of awakening creative ideas. To achieve the insertion of positive messages, I listen to music with happy melodies and uplifting lyrics. One of my favorites is this one:
Although my mother's idiom is Spanish, I leave the lyrics in English so you can see what it's all about and why boosting my mood!
Another song that also recharges my energy is this one:
It is my favorite melody (maybe not recommended by yogis, but it works for me):
