To talk about music is to express everything you feel when you listen to the songs of a band or musician that you like the most, and in this case I want to talk about this album by the American heavy metal band Black Label Society, an album titled "Mafia", with a particular cover design, a tribute to the legendary Godfather.
Mafia would be the sixth album of Black Label Society, composed of 15 musical themes, that for my appreciation are worthy to listen from the beginning to the end, with a total duration of 48 minutes and 20 seconds, of good guitar riffs and powerful voices. The album was released in 2005, under the net production of guitar prodigy and vocalist Zakk Wylde, on the Artemis label and became one of the band's best-selling albums, with a total of 250,000 copies in the United States alone at the time of its release.
Hablar de música, es expresar todo lo que se siente cuando escuchas esas canciones de alguna banda o músico que más te gusten, y en este caso quiero hablarles de éste disco de la banda estadounidense de heavy metal Black Label Society, álbum que de titula como "Mafia", con un particular diseño del cover, tributo al legendario Godfather.
Mafia vendría siendo el sexto álbum de Black Label Society, compuesta 15 temas musicales, que para mi aprecio son dignas de escuchar desde el principio a fin, con una duración total de 48 minutos y 20 segundos, de buenos riffs de guitarras y voces potentes. Dicho disco fue lanzado en 2005, bajo la producción neta del prodigio guitarrista y vocalista Zakk Wylde, con la disquera Artemis y se convirtió en unos de los discos de mayor ventas de la banda, con total de 250 mil copias solamente en Estados Unidos en ese momento de su lanzamiento.
Whenever I have listened to Black Label Society, it reminds me of Black Sabbath, but in my opinion much more elaborate, without underestimating Black Sabbath, for being the band that revolutionized the sound of music, to create what we hear as heavy metal, and that undoubtedly is of great influence for Zakk Wylde, even being himself occasionally Ozzy Osbourne's guitarist.
That's where that great influence comes from with respect to Zakk Wylde's voice, but with a deeper tone, than what you hear from the legendary Ozzy. And on this album you can really appreciate Wylde's powerful voice, making harmony with the other instruments, doubling his voice to give power to the songs and the use of falsetto in some songs, as part of the vocal technique and composition, of that voice that has certain characteristics of being more Groove Metal and part Doom Metal.
Siempre que he escucho Black Label Society, me recuerda a Black Sabbath, pero al mi parecer mucho más trabajado, sin menospreciar a Black Sabbath, por ser la banda que revolucionó el sonido de la música, para crear lo que mucho escuchamos como heavy metal, y que sin duda es de mucha influencia para Zakk Wylde, incluso siendo él mismo guitarrista ocasionalmente de Ozzy Osbourne.
De ahí es que viene esa gran influencia con respecto a la voz de Zakk Wylde, pero con un tono más grave, de lo que se escucha del mítico Ozzy. Y en este disco se aprecia con mucha fuerza la voz potente de Wylde, haciendo armonía con los demás instrumentos, doblando su voz para darle potencia a las canciones y el uso del falsete en algunos temas, como parte de la técnica y composición vocal, de esa voz que tiene ciertas características de ser más Groove Metal y parte Doom Metal.
You can hear the most characteristic of Black Label Society, with their violent and powerful riffs, guitar solos, musical compositions with musical instruments such as piano and acoustic guitar, giving another musical aspect to this album, which is not the traditional heavy metal band, with bass, electric guitar and drums.
As I said from the beginning all the musical themes are worth listening to, but from selecting a few tracks, I liked them a lot; the first song is called "Fire it Up", which starts you to get involved with the album, with its dense and harmonious riffs, and then the musical theme "Suicide Messiah", passing through the ballad "In this River", a musical theme dedicated to the Pantera guitarist Dimebag Darrel, for his death and who was a friend of Zakk Wylde, even having a music video of that same theme, which is the dramatization of children who would be Dimebag Darrel and Zakk Wylde, a very emotional song for its melodies and heartbreaking voices, and finally I select as another musical theme of this album, the last track entitled "I Never Dreamed", a cover in the best style of Black Label Society, originally from the group Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Se puede escuchar desde lo más característico de Black Label Society, con sus violentos y potentes riffs, solos de guitarras, composiciones musicales con instrumentos musicales como el piano y guitarra acústica, dándole otro aspecto musical en éste disco, de no ser netamente lo tradicional de una banda de heavy metal, con bajo, guitarra eléctrica y batería.
Como dije desde un principio todos los temas musicales son dignos de escucharlos todos, pero de seleccionar algunas pistas, me gustaron mucho; la primera canción que se titula "Fire it Up", que de entrada te comienza envolver con el disco, con sus riffs densos y armoniosos, para luego nombrar el tema musical "Suicide Messiah", pasando por la balada "In this River", tema musical dedicado al guitarra de Pantera Dimebag Darrel, por su muerte y quien fuera amigo de Zakk Wylde, teniendo incluso un video musical de ese mismo tema, que se la dramatización de niños que serían Dimebag Darrel y Zakk Wylde, canción muy emotiva por sus melodías y voces desgarradoras, y por último selecciono como otro temal musical de este disco, la última pista que se titula "I Never Dreamed", un cover al mejor estilo de Black Label Society, originalmente del grupo Lynyrd Skynyrd.
