  • 2 Bands starting with the letter G, my choices are:

1) Green Jellÿ

Style: Comedy Rock / Punk / Metal
Country: USA

Green Jellÿ is a Comedy Rock band from the early 1990's. They started their career with an incredibly funny album in 1989, called Triple Live Möther Gööse at Budokan which was re-recorded and released in 1993, under the name Cereal Killer. It's basically the same album but some of the songs have different names.

They called themselves Green Jellö, at first... but that turned into a legal nightmare and they got sued by Kraft Foods, the owners of the Jell-O trademark, due to a copyright infringement.

So, they renamed themselves as Green Jellÿ. The ÿ (y umlaut) is supposed to make it sound like an "o."

What is Comedy Rock, you ask? It's a style where groups play mostly for the fun of it and to make fun of other groups. Technical skills is the last thing they are thinking about. They just want to have a good time... and give you a few laughs while they do it! 😂

The song Anarchy in Bedrock is a perfect example of that. This is an obvious parody of Anarchy in UK, by Sex Pistols... as well as The Flintstones! Both the video and the music are funny as hell! 😅

The band was formed by the vocalist, Bill Manspeaker. He got sued a LOT of times because of the band, as they kept infringing on the copyrights of several multinational brands.

Danny Carey was the drummer of Green Jellÿ in this album... and for the following five years. He was credited as Danny Long Legs. 😂

Nowadays he is known for being the drummer from Tool.

2) GWAR

Style: Comedy Metal / Heavy Metal
Country: USA

Yep... this is another American Comedy band! I kid you not!

GWAR were created in 1984 by lead singer Dave Brockie but were never a true band, in the literal sense of the world.

According to Wikipedia, the group is formed by a rotating line-up of musicians, artists and filmmakers who are collectively known as Slave Pit Inc. Following the death of frontman and lead singer Dave Brockie in 2014, the group has continued without any of its founding members.

Here is the videoclip for the song Let Us Slay:

GWAR are mostly known by playing live with outrageous costumes and spilling fake blood all over the crowd! If you go to one of their shows, be careful with what you wear... because you might leave the concert covered in red. 😜

Here's an example of that... with the live cover of an AC/DC song: If You Want Blood (You've Got It):

I hope you have enjoyed these bands. 😈
