Hello music lovers! 🎵🎧🎵
The heat is still here, whether I am at sea or at home. But I am always listening to music.
For today's #newtunes, I first thought of posting new pop hits that are spinning in the charts but changed my mind.
You can listen to pop hits anywhere, on any radio, TV, or platform.
Some of the suggestions for the weekend are more from the alternative and indie music scene, but there are also some bigger names.
If you like it, it'll be OK, but if you don't, you can skip it of course.
Let's get started!
Gorillaz - Cracker Island ft. Thundercat
In a delirium of police lights and hallucinations, the virtual band Gorillaz call a new dawn and create an epic psychedelic video for their summer hit 'Cracker Island ft. Thundercat'. They take listeners and viewers on a nocturnal journey to the City of Angels.
This track is set in collaboration with virtuoso bassist, two-time Grammy winner, Thundercat. Quite interesting.
Petrol Girls - Baby, I Had An Abortion
British-Austrian feminist post-hardcore punk band Petrol Girls released their third album 'Baby' in June 2022 on the independent label Hassle Records, focusing on topical women's issues.
For fans, of course.
Interpol - Renegade Hearts
I remember about twenty years ago, when I started following them, that music critics thought they were the future of guitar rock.
Well, twenty years later, they're still where they were. The new album 'The Other Side Of Make-Believe' was released recently and this particular song reminds me of their first guitar hits.
They Hate Change - Breathing
The Florida hip-hop and electro duo claim that the mainstream music scene has become very boring and monotonous lately. Behind every musician who wants to succeed, there is a multi-headed team of managers and producers who want their piece of the pie.
With the latest album 'Finally, New', they try to prove that they are not part of this scene, spicing up their hip-hop with various drum'n'bass and house spots based on British electronica from the 80s. Recommended for fans.
Ben Shemie - The Return
Ben Shemie, better known as a member of the Canadian experimental rock band Suuns, has released a new album under his own name 'Desiderata'.
The music is reminiscent of a constructivist paste-up, where all aspects of music and poetry meet.
Use of vocoder and synthetic sound is highly rhythmic and minimalistic, with a distinctive vocal floating sovereignly in the foreground, defining the the artist's individuality.
Wu-Lu - Scrambled Tricks
Miles Romans-Hopcraft, or Wu-Lu, has been roaming the London hip-hop and rap underground for a long time now, but it looks like the time has come for his debut album 'Loggerhead', which he and his crew recently released.
The music he makes has much more of the weird, experimental rock, punk, grunge and echoes of the socially critical flashes of 20th and 21st century music than hip hop. His vocals are not exactly rappy either. But genre compartments have no meaning for good music anyway.
black midi - Eat Men Eat
black midi emerged in 2017 and were quickly catapulted a year or two later to become one of the most promising bands in the the then general fever of new British guitar music.
With their latest album, 'Hellfire', they entered the hellish cinematic world of of ironically twisted melodrama, fanatical characters and pathetic anti-heroes. Musically, they flirt with the heritage of jazz-fusion. Recommended.
THE EPHEMERON LOOP - Sun Shimmer Repeater
And finally, the Greek artist with the unrecognisable name... adopts the artistic alter ego of Vymethoxy Redspiders for her first solo project, The Ephemeron Loop, and her debut album, 'Psychonaut Escapism', with sounds of hyper pop, techno, black metal, shoegaze and breakcore - a range of genres that have marked the artist's transformation journey.
For the presentation here I've chosen, an ambient, chill-out and after-party composition I find the most listenable.
ugh... there's a mess ... I need to change something ... this year ... maybe 😁
... anyway, if you're curious just click the dates and listen to songs ...
