New Tunes, 3.12.2021

Hello music lovers! 🎡🎧🎀🎡

Is there anything you're listening to at the moment?
If not, I recommend you check out this #newtunes edition, where we're tracking fresh music that's just starting to appear on online and offline music services.

Maybe some of it will be a global hit, who knows? Enthusiastic listeners maybe?
Well, whatever, these sounds have been echoing in my ears this week, and probably will be for the weekend. Then I'm off to find new audio combinations that my ears will accept.
But for all: If you don't like something, feel free to skip it :) 😁 πŸ‘Ύ 🍻

Converge and Chelsea Wolfe - Blood Moon

Converge is a legendary hardcore band and this is the prelude to their tenth album 'Bloodmoon: I', recorded with an expanded line-up and featuring guest appearances by Chelsea Wolfe, among others.
'Bloodmoon: I' sounds completely different from classic Converge's hardcore sound. The speed and impulsiveness are replaced by slow and more complex musical structures. With Chelsea Wolfe, Converge is a mix of punk, metal, gothic rock, and post-hardcore. I'm waiting to see what the next cocktail will be. And I recommend it.

Shabazz Palaces - Shine a Light

Shabazz Palaces is an American hip-hop group from Seattle. The song is from July this year. I chose it because it belongs to the genre of Afrofuturism, which is a kind of movement in literature, art, music, film, video games, etc., that pushes futurism and science fiction themes, bringing elements of black history and culture into the foreground. Recorded for the label SubPop which I have been following for years.

Kurstin x Grohl: The Hanukkah Sessions 2021 - Night Three

Greg Kurstin, famous producer and multi-instrumentalist joined forces with Dave Grohl (Nirvana, Foo Fighters) for so-called 'Hanukkah Sessions' where they covered Barry Manilow's 'Copacabana' for the night three of Festival of Lights.
The adaptation is excellent. Well, if nothing else, I find it interesting how much energy they have because they are both actively making their own music and collaborating on other projects all the time.

Tony Iommi - Scent of Dark

Legendary guitarist and leader of the famous metal band Black Sabbath, Tony Iommi has released a new single 'Scent Of Dark'. The first song after eight years of hiatus. Tony is of course a master of the guitar and this instrumental song also sounds like classic heavy metals.
Well, why did he release this single? The man has a hobby! 😎 He makes perfumes and this song is the launch of his new perfume of the same name :)

Spoon - The Hardest Cut

Spoon is an American band from Austin that has been sailing the edge of rock'n'roll and rhythm and blues for over 25 years. Never so high that they are superstars and never so low that anyone thinks they are charlatans.
Heck, they may be best known for changing band members frequently. This song is an announcement of the new album 'Lucifer On The Sofa' which will be released in February 2022. Quite a nice song.

Snail Mail - Valentine

Snail Mail is an indie rock project of American singer and songwriter Lindsey Jordan. Her debut album in 2018 was nominated for Best Rock Album at 2019 Libera Awards by the American Association of Independent Music. This piece here is from their second album 'Valentine'.
Well, Lindsey has shown here too that she is a master of tension and detail and that she certainly has a lot more to say.

GORDAN - Down In The Meadow

Trio Gordan is the project of three versatile artists, Guido Mâbius, the wizard of electronic, drone, and experimental music, the Viennese percussionist Andi Stecher and the exceptional Serbian vocalist Svetlana Spajić. They found each other in Berlin and present their debut album 'Down In The Meadow' with this song.
In their debut album and in this song they try to combine the experimental worlds of MΓΆbius, the dynamic drum improvisations of Stecher, and the flawless vocal techniques from the Balkan singing tradition. Very avant-garde sounds that go a step further from the established tracks and somehow show us what the modern music of multicultural megapolises will evolve into.

Tori Amos - Speaking With Trees

British singer, musician, and songwriter, she's persevering on her musical path. The new album, 16th in a row, 'Ocean To Ocean' is her intimate response to the current chaos, pandemic, and cruelty of the world. The music is clean and clear, rockingly fluid, carefully produced and balanced, every sound in its right place and pleasing to the ear. That's why we love it.
