Hello music lovers! 🎵 🎧 🎤🎵
Stop for a moment and listen! #newtunes are here again!
These sounds from the vast musical swamp in which you have to dig deep to find a gem are my choice for the week.
I know it's hard to jump out of your skin and spend your own precious time on something that isn't really material. Maybe some of these #newtunes will ring in your ears for the weekend?
Well, if you find something for yourself and you're in a better mood then it's worth a try and I'll be happy that my sharing has brought something positive to someone.
Of course, you can skip straight away if it's not listenable :)
Phoebe Bridgers – Moon Song
Phoebe, American singer-songwriter, guitarist, and owner of four Grammy Award nominations, presents an arrangement of her own song from her award-winning album Punisher. Phoebe is also known for donating much from her performances to charity.
In a spacesuit on the Jimmy Kimel show. Very emotive vocals, accompanied by extraordinary violin and acoustic guitar in the background.
Bryan Adams - So Happy It Hurts
Legend is back and ready for the world tour in 2022 with its new album So Happy It Hurts. Now I don't know why he's happy if he's in pain, whether it's because the pandemic is supposedly over or because he's old and if he's in pain it means he's still alive (the late Johnny Cash would say)... but this song is happy and positive, on the road again :)
Måneskin - MAMMAMIA
Italian rock attraction Måneskin (winners of this year's Eurosong) have released a new single 'Mammamia'. The energetic song with a dance rhythm is quickly climbing the charts all over the world, and their European Loud Kids Tour sold out in (reportedly) two hours. Listenable, danceable, popular, and fierce at the same time.
Soft Cel - Bruises On My Illusions
Does anyone else remember the Soft Cell duo? After the mega-hit Tainted Love, if nothing else. Well, after more than 20 years they will release a new album Cruelty Without Love in January 2022 and this song is the introduction to the album. Or if you want a revival of 1980s New Romanticism.
Tears For Fears - The Tipping Point
Tears For Fears are back on the scene. After 17 years, they have announced a new album to be released in January 2022. It was supposed to be released in 2017, but apparently, it didn't work out so well. And they moved it up by 5 years. The music in this introductory single which is called an album is not moving into any new waters but is typical of their previous style. Soft, ambient electronica with message vocals, listenable for sure.
Danny Elfman - "Serious Ground" (Xiu Xiu Remix)
Daniel Elfman is better known as the singer and songwriter of the new wave band Oingo Boingo. He has achieved wider recognition for his work as a film music composer. He basically offered this song to the experimental band Xiu Xiu to cover, and they were happy to take it.
The result is a kind of industrial remix with a fresh progressive sound. And everyone is happy.
Yves Tumor - Jackie
Sean Bowie, better known as Yves Tumor, is an American musician and electronic music producer. I didn't know him until now, but I was impressed by this video of his, which is a kind of revival of glam rock, Prince, and similar models. Someone said about him: the most fascinating musical artist in the game right now. His/their stuff's like a psychedelic, post-industrial interpretation on the 70s/80s glam rock gone under the abyss. Worth a listen to.
James Ginzburg - On Obsidian Expanse
Another new name for me. James Ginzburg is an English musician who makes experimental electronic, folk, dance, and film music. He is one half of Emptyset, a duo exploring the material properties of sound in relation to architecture, performance, and physical modes of production.
Two weeks ago he gave a performance in Ljubljana, near me, too bad I didn't pop in to see him.
Very rarely heard sounds, actually an ambient sound construction, not for everyone but still recommended.
