METAL ALBUM REVIEW. Amorphis — Halo (2022)

Huge musical greetings to all!

I continue to look for interesting novelties in the world of heavy music. And this time, the fourteenth record of the Finnish metal band Amorphis came under my attention, which the fans of the genre must have ever heard of.

For three decades, musicians have been able to create incredible stories, shrouded in mythical stories. Each album is original and unusual in its own way. Let many say that the musicians have lost their passion and “grip”, but I really liked the new album “Halo”, released this year. Moreover, Amorphis is the most, I would say, ambiguous band of our time.

"Halo" is nothing more than another conceptual work of the team. In addition, it is the final chapter, consisting of three parts. The story began in the album "Under the Red Cloud" in 2015 and continues in "Queen Of Time" in 2018. Very cool and atmospheric work done in the spirit of the group.

The music on the disc is made in the best traditions of folk and, this time, has distinct features of progressive metal.

Thirty-six songs were recorded for "Halo", eleven of which became part of the tracklist. I hope someday we will be able to hear the works left unattended.

The structure of the songs is simple, but it perfectly emphasizes the band's unique style. They have separate original solutions and ideas, however, the formula for writing compositions still follows the standard beaten path, which is not necessarily a bad thing. This led to the fact that even several listening to the entire album does not allow the listener to fully perceive the idea of the album.

"Halo" is a cool work from metalheads Amorphis. Despite all their musical experiments and searches, the guys managed to create a powerful folk metal that will definitely be remembered by those who love the style in which the band plays. And if you listen to this album, you will definitely be satisfied.
