La canción escogida para la "Fotografía Musical" de esta semana es "El Tramao", un sabroso merengue venezolano en compás de 5/8, del querido compositor venezolano Luis Laguna. El merengue venezolano fue un género muy popular entre 1920 y 1940, por aquel entonces el merengue "rucaneao", como se le conocía, estaba siempre presente en fiestas y celebraciones donde no podían faltar la bebida y el baile. Siempre ha existido controversia respecto al compás que es característico de este género, ya que algunos fueron escritos en cifras de 2/4, otros en 6/8 y unos en la cifra preferida por los músicos contemporáneos, en compás de 5/8, lo que si está claro es que en cualquiera de las variantes mencionadas, el merengue está siempre bajo el rigor de un compás binario, es decir, de dos tiempos o dos grupos de tiempos (simétricos o asimétricos). El Tramao ha sido interpretado por importantes músicos y agrupaciones locales, pero en esta oportunidad quiero destacar la versión de la agrupación venezolana "El Cuarteto", una verdadera perla de la música venezolana.
