Some Songs Used In Films - ThreeTuneTuesday

It's Tuesday, which means it is time to share some Tune, Three to be precise. I've been buzzing with a pair of headphones on and decided to put a couple of songs out there for today's #threetunetuesday which is hosted by @ablaze

Girl U Want - DEVO

DEVO is a pretty strange group, that writes some catchy tunes, and has influenced many different bands over the years, actually while looking this up, I saw that Sound Garden has a cover of this, but their version is a slower tempo, but still good in its own way. I think their music videos are great too, in a pretty weird way.

I really like this song, it starts off leaving you wondering, "What is this?" Then explodes it explodes into an instant bopper.

Doing the cover band, we decided that we wanted to do songs that we all like, rather than focus on crowd pleasers that we haven't much interest in. So, this song was suggested by the drummer of the band and we all laughed and decided to give it a go.

If we weren't to do a cover of this one, the next on my list of a DEVO song to do would either be, 'Gut Feeling', or 'Uncontrollable Urge'

I think Gut Feeling was in the film, Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. That might be the first place I heard that song, but I've always liked it since then.

Speaking of songs from movies.

After Dark - Tito & Tarantula

I saw From Dusk Till Dawn when I was a kid, and loved it, I thought it was such a great movie and since watching it then, I have seen it a bunch of times. It's actually a really fun movie. I remember I introduced my partner to it and told her that it's a crime caper about two brothers on the run. Neglected to tell her about the big "twist." I just remember her jumping to attention and saying, "WTF is this?!"

For anyone who has never watched the film, it's a road trip crime caper... that's all. Haha, maybe don't read the rest of this because I'd rather not spoil the surprise for anyone who hasn't watched it.

Anyway, for anyone who has seen it you know the twist I'm talking about. I've always thought that this song worked so well with that scene, and acted as a great musical interlude between one story and the rest of it.

It's mesmerising in a way, and it's always stuck in my head since then. There are plenty of songs used in movies that just work, and that scene I don't think that would work with any other song.

Fucking in the bushes - Oasis

Speaking of songs that work really well in scenes of movies, there's this one by Oasis. Snatch is one of my all-time favourite films, and has a soundtrack as interesting as the film itself, in fact, I think changing even one song from the soundtrack of the film would potentially ruin the entire film, because each song feels like the screenplay is written with the particular song in mind, filmed with it in mind and edited to the song, meaning that the music is truly a part of the film.

Just as an example of what I mean, here's the film scene with the song. The build-up and anticipation of this fight has been growing the entire movie, and now here at the end, it is used multiple times throughout the run of the scene and it works so well with it. Also, this scene contains one of my favourite lines of dialogue in a movie.

"Pete, talk to me!"

"If you want your friend to hear ya, you'll have to talk a lot louder than that."

Bang

This song though works so well, as it is the big lead-up to the final fight and brings the film to its conclusion. Funny enough, I went to see Liam Gallagher back in 2018, and he came out to this song, and my god, I've never been so pumped up during a gig.

I've never been a huge Oasis fan, I like a lot of their songs, but after seeing him live, I wasn't a mega-fan, but I can say, I get it. What a legend.
