Metalweekend | The New York Hardcore edition

Last weekend it was dance weekend. This weekend it is more of a metal kind of weekend. Maybe because of the rain and the vibe that comes with that, of maybe because a friend of mine was in a metal podcast I was listening to earlier in the weekend. It is time for the roaring guitars inside the house!

Vision of Disorder - Suffer

What was also mentioned in this podcast is that most people know this one from the New York Hardcore documentary. If you haven't seen this one, you really should because it is awesome entertainment and also shows you a lot about where the history of hardcore comes from and how it is defined. Especially the parts about 25 ta Life are just super fun to watch. But apart from that, VOD put out this awesome song. Love it or hate it, most of al the crooked sung part in the chorus. 'And don't you b&tch about the pain.....yeaaaaaaah'

Merauder - Master Killer

Although most people asscociate New York hardcore more with the punkier side, the metal side of the stream was also accepted but not loved by all. I am not really into the punkier side so Merauder was more of my thing.
I think I saw a couple of Merauder shows in the beginning of the 2000s and they were always not that good as you would hope. But in the end, it is about the music and Master Killer is really a classic!

Pro-Pain - Make war (not love)

The slower side of New York Hardcore is to me represented by Pro-Pain. Actually I hear the same pace in this song as Master Killer and this is literally the pace every Pro-Pain song has in there.

I remember seeing Pro-Pain in the Effenaar ( a venue) in Eindhoven, Holland before it was rebuilt and that was a fantastic show. I stagedived and crowdsurfed here which was all so special back in the days. Literally every song that was played that night I knew and sang along with. These dudes are tall, large and impressive and so is their music. God, I miss going to shows every now and then.

Crown of Thornz -Juggernaut

Back to having the perfect intros on a song. Just listen to this one! Once I was in the position to see these guys live in some underground church in Germany and with this song the place just got detroyed from front to bag. Frontman Lord Ezec is already a character on itself and most of the stories are always from what he was doing outside of the shows.

I remember the show was messy. The song were played terrible, the vocals were nowhere but who cared. It was the legends playing our favorite songs and we were singing along and dancing!

Well guys this metal weekend is more a trip down memory lane on what shows I all attended back in the days, and maybe that is just the best to think about in these rainy days with no shows going on. Think about the good ones back then! Happy weekend guys, cheers!
