COVER Request Contest Week 20! - Winner (50% HP): @jesus-son! Runner-up (20% HP): @nickydee!

Hello everybody on HIVE, and especially the Music Community. My name is Jasper and I'm writing (and singing) to you a work trip up into the Karoo, about 7 hours inland from my home in Cape Town, South Africa!

I am into the 20th week of this challenging series of posts I have set myself for Thursdays! BUT I Need your help to keep going please!

This is the challenge I'm setting myself every Thursday: I ask for cover song requests on the MUSIC community (make a comment on this post to take part by suggesting a song for me to try), and then I pick a favourite song to learn and post a live video of me attempting it. The person who asked for the winning song then gets 50% of the post rewards in HP! (If I pick a second song, that person gets 20% of the post rewards in HP as well!) It's as simple as that! (Well for everyone but me who then has to learn to sing and play new songs every week! Haha!)

Again, I got lots of lovely requests this week! This is really great. After a few slow weeks over the festive season I'm starting to think that this little challenge is taking off nicely again!! Please, if I did not select your song, please try ask for it or a new song again!

Winning first place is @jesus-son! His real name is Victor, and he is from Nigeria! He is sharing plenty of music on HIVE himself, and I notice he plays keyboard and violin! He asked for an absolute classic by Michael Jackson, namely "Heal the World". Here is the original version!

Congratulations @jesus-son! You win 50% of this post's rewards in HP!

I had another wonderful request that I couldn't resist as a patriotic South African! @nickydee, a fellow South African from Cape Town, who has been rapidly accumulating HP since she joined HIVE even more recently than me, asked for a song by Johnny Clegg and Savuka called "Great Heart".

For those of you who are not familiar with Johnny Clegg, he is a South African hero who used to be referred to as "The White Zulu". In the middle of the Apartheid era in South Africa, where the white minority Government imposed racial segregation, Johnny Clegg began learning Zulu guitar music and war dancing from migrant Zulu workers he met in Johannesburg. He learnt the language and was finally accepted as an honourary Zulu man. Then he started bands called Juluka, and then Savuka, which mixed Western and Zulu music styles, and even mixed English and isiZulu languages... this music really became a simple of challenging the racist Apartheid laws, and how we should be living together in peace and learning from each other. Apartheid eventually came to an end in the early 1990s when I was a young boy. Here is the original version of "Great Heart":

Well done @nickydee ! You get 20% of this post's rewards in HP as well!

So now, for everybody else reading this, please take part! All you have to do is make a comment on this post with a suggestion for a cover song that you would like me to attempt next week. Give it a shot!!

Lyrics for "Heal the World" by Michael Jackson

(Think about um, the generations
And ah, say we want to make it a better place for our children
And our children's children so that they, they
They, they know it's a better world for them
And think if they can make it a better place)
There's a place in your heart
And I know that it is love
And this place it was brighter than tomorrow
And if you really try
You'll find there's no need to cry
In this place you'll feel there's no hurt or sorrow
There are ways to get there
If you care enough for the living
Make a little space
Make a better place
Heal the world
Make it a better place
For you and for me, and the entire human race
There are people dying
If you care enough for the living
Make a better place for you and for me
If you want to know why
There's love that cannot lie
Love is strong
It only cares of joyful giving
If we try we shall see
In this bliss we cannot feel
Fear of dread, we stop existing and start living
Then it feels that always
Love's enough for us growing
Make a better world
So make a better world
Heal the world
Make it a better place
For you and for me, and the entire human race
There are people dying
If you care enough for the living
Make a better place for you and for me
And the dream we were conceived in will reveal a joyful face
And the world we once believed in will shine again in grace
Then why do we keep strangling life
Wound this earth, crucify its soul?
Though it's plain to see, this world is heavenly
Be god's glow
We could fly so high
Let our spirits never die
In my heart I feel you are all my brothers
Create a world with no fear
Together we cry happy tears
See the nations turn their swords into plowshares
We could really get there
If you cared enough for the living
Make a little space
To make a better place
Heal the world
Make it a better place
For you and for me, and the entire human race
There are people dying
If you care enough for the living
Make a better place for you and for me
Heal the world
Make it a better place
For you and for me, and the entire human race
There are people dying
If you care enough for the living
Make a better place for you and for me
Heal the world (heal the world)
Make it a better place
For you and for me, and the entire human race
There are people dying
If you care enough for the living
Make a better place for you and for me
There are people dying
If you care enough for the living
Make a better place for you and for me
There are people dying
If you care enough for the living
Make a better place for you and for me
You and for me (for a better place)
You and for me (make a better place)
You and for me (make a better place)
You and for me (heal the world we live in)
You and for me (save it for our children)
You and for me (heal the world we live in)
You and for me (save it for our children)
You and for me (heal the world we live in)
You and for me (save it for our children)
You and for me (heal the world we live in)
You and for me (save it for our children)

Lyrics for "Great Heart" by Johnny Clegg and Savuka

The world is full of strange behavior
Every man has to be his own savior
I know I can make it on my own if I try
But I'm searching for a great heart to stand me by
Underneath the African sky
A great heart to stand me by
I'm searching for the spirit of the great heart
To hold and keep me by
I'm searching for the spirit of the great heart
Under African sky
Sometimes I feel that you really know me
Sometimes there's so much you can show me
There's a highway of stars across the heavens
There's whispering song of the wind in the grass
There's the rolling thunder across the savanna
A hope and dream at the edge of the sky
And your life is a story like the wind
Your life is a story like the wind
I'm searching for the spirit of the great heart
To hold and stand me by
I'm searching for the spirit of the great heart
Under African sky
I'm searching for the spirit of the great heart
I see the fire in your eyes
I'm searching for the spirit of the great heart
That beats my name inside
Sometimes I feel that you really know me
Sometimes there's so much you can show me
I'm searching for the spirit of the great heart
(Guka 'mzimba, sala 'nhliziyo)
I'm searching for the spirit of the great heart
(Guka 'mzimba, sala 'nhliziyo)
I'm searching for the spirit of the great heart
To hold and stand me by
I'm searching for the spirit of the great heart
Under African sky
I'm searching for the spirit of the great heart
(Guka 'mzimba, sala 'nhliziyo)
I'm searching for the spirit of the great heart
(Guka 'mzimba, sala 'nhliziyo)
I'm searching for the spirit of the great heart
(Guka 'mzimba, sala 'nhliziyo)
I'm searching for the spirit of the great heart
