COVER Request Contest Week 16! - Winner (50% post HP): @ablaze! / Runner-up (20% HP): @rosana6!

Hello everybody on HIVE, and especially the Music Community. My name is Jasper and I'm writing (and singing) to you from South Africa!

I am into the 16th week of this challenging series of posts I have set myself for Thursdays! BUT I Need your Help to keep going please!

This is the challenge I'm setting myself every Thursday: I ask for cover song requests on the MUSIC community (make a comment on this post to take part by suggesting a song for me to try), and then I pick a favourite song to learn and post a live video of me attempting it. The person who asked for the winning song then gets 50% of the post rewards in HP! (If I pick a second song, that person gets 20% of the post rewards in HP as well!) It's as simple as that! (Well for everyone but me who then has to learn to sing and play new songs! Haha!)

Apologies for my attempts today - I have a bit of a tickle-cough that I let out between verses!

This week's winner is @ablaze from Ireland. I think many of you will know him as the Initiator of "Three Tune Tuesday", which had its 85th week this week! I've been contributing to TTT for 20 weeks now, playing the songs live on guitar (you don't have to - you can share YouTube links to your three songs of the week so check it out!) and so it's been a great platform for me, and I'm happy I get to sing a song for @ablaze in return!

He asked for "Jolene", but the one by Ray Lamontagne rather than Dolly Parton! No problem, I am familiar with it... it's one of my Mom's favourite albums - she loves his powerful, gravelly voice!

Here's the original:

Well done @ablaze! You get 50% of this post reward in HP!

Let's have a runner-up song as well! I choose the one by @rosana6, who asked for "The Scientist" by Coldplay. @rosana6 is from Venezuela, and is a great singer and guitarist in her own right - be sure to check out her Hive Open Mic entry this week, which was a great cover of "Don't Speak" by No Doubt, which took me on a nostalgia trip!

Here's "The Scientist":

Well done to @rosana6! You get 20% of this post reward in HP! And so another week is done and dusted! Thank you so much for watching!

So now, for everybody else reading this, please take part! All you have to do is make a comment on this post with a suggestion for a cover song that you would like me to attempt next week. Give it a shot!!

Lyrics for "Jolene" by Ray Lamontagne

Cocaine flame in my bloodstream
Sold my coat when I hit Spokane
Bought myself a hard pack of cigarettes
In the early morning rain
Lately, my hands they don't feel like mine
My eyes been stung with dust, I'm blind
Held you in my arms one time
Lost you just the same
Jolene
I ain't about to go straight
It's too late
I found myself face-down in a ditch
Booze in my hair, blood on my lips
A picture of you, holding a picture of me
In the pocket of my blue jeans
Still don't know what love means
Still don't know what love means
Jolene
Ah, la, la, la, la, la
Jolene
Been so long since I seen your face
Or felt a part of this human race
I've been living out of this here suitcase for way too long
A man needs something he can hold onto
Nine-pound hammer or a woman like you
Either one of them things will do
Jolene
I ain't about to go straight
It's too late
I found myself face down in a ditch
Booze in my hair, blood on my lips
A picture of you, holding a picture of me
In the pocket of my blue jeans
Still don't know what love means
Still don't know what love means
Jolene
La, la, la, la, la, la, la
Jolene
La, la, la, la, la, la, la
Jolene

Lyrics for "The Scientist" by Coldplay

Come up to meet you, tell you I'm sorry
You don't know how lovely you are
I had to find you, tell you I need you
Tell you I set you apart
Tell me your secrets and ask me your questions
Oh, let's go back to the start
Running in circles, coming up tails
Heads on a science apart
Nobody said it was easy
It's such a shame for us to part
Nobody said it was easy
No one ever said it would be this hard
Oh, take me back to the start
I was just guessing at numbers and figures
Pulling the puzzles apart
Questions of science, science and progress
Do not speak as loud as my heart
But tell me you love me, come back and haunt me
Oh and I rush to the start
Running in circles, chasing our tails
Coming back as we are
Nobody said it was easy
Oh, it's such a shame for us to part
Nobody said it was easy
No one ever said it would be so hard
I'm going back to the start
