Raining in Manila (Lola Amour for TTT)

There was a heavy downpour mid-afternoon today which had us climbing into bed and watching an interesting Korean series called Arthdal Chronicles. The rain stopped around 4 pm and the sun showed up like it was just rising on the horizon, except it was about to set.

It's been a while since I captured one out in the yard so I'm stoked to have this. Not the best but I enjoyed the view.

Speaking of the rain, I was reminded of a song I once heard not so long ago. It's by Lola Amour, a Filipino band that plays a fusion of various genres (alternative rock, pop, funk).

The group has quite a story of how it was formed. Accordingly, they were two rival bands in school but the members were friends and decided to merge and perform during their graduation ball. The name Lola Amour was named after one of the band member's grandma.

Here are some of those that I like.

Lola Amour - Raining in Manila

The band's most-viewed music video to date. This is one of the tracks in the group's self-titled debut album which they had been producing for a while (before the pandemic period). The album was to be released in 2023 but they postponed it until recently.

The song has quite an interesting meaning behind its lyrics. It's about one losing his friends because they left the country in search of greener pastures overseas. He misses them and wishes them happiness. More of it can be found here.

Some fun facts about this song:

  • Jake, a member of the Enhypen group covered the song during a Weverse livestream in July 2023.

  • BamBam, a Thai singer covered the song during his concert at the Araneta Coliseum (Manila) in September 2023 and released a cover version on his social media.

  • Chris Martin of Coldplay sang a few lines of the song during their concert at the Philippine Arena in January 2024, then invited Lola Amour on stage to perform the song with him in front of a sold-out crowd.

Lola Amour - Saan Kakapit

Another melancholic song from the group. Accordingly, it is a response to the previous song Raining in Manila as explained in the description on their YT channel.

It is sung from the perspective of the person Raining In Manila is speaking to, explaining that moving away from home to pursue better opportunities doesn't necessarily mean life is easier, but harder because of the loneliness it entails.¹

Lola Amour - This Ain't Love

This is another track on their recently released album (10th April). This can be one that I could listen to when I want to relax and think because of its slow, less disturbing beats. I play them at a low volume so I don't get distracted.

Weird yet?😹

Anyhow, among these 3, the first one (Raining in Manila) is one that I easily remember especially when it rains.

And this, of course, is my participation in the Three Tune Tuesday initiative by Ablaze. Thank you and hope you like any of them.
